Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tori Solis. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Tori, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s been one of the most interesting investments you’ve made – and did you win or lose? (Note, these responses are only intended as entertainment and shouldn’t be construed as investment advice)
My best investment to date has been to consistently invest in myself. I do this by furthering my education with classes and experiences that push me creatively. I invest in myself when I am choosing quality and appropriate tools for each part of my process.
In 2022, I invested heavily in taking courses in ceramics at the Dallas College Richland, as well as at the Dallas Creative Arts Center. This investment into myself helped me to gain artistic perspective, as well as improve my technical skills within the craft. Working in an educational setting among other artists is a wonderful way to expand your horizons and grow your skill.
Tori, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a visual artist who works across several different mediums. I started my artistic journey in acrylic painting, and I frequently take pet portrait commissions. I have an award winning line of hemp and crystal jewelry designs featuring spiritual and astrological themes available on my website. Most recently, for the past 3 years I have been expanding into the ceramic arts, with a focus on wheel thrown and altered work. I really enjoy making functional forms, among which are: bonsai pots, cups, mugs, planters and jars.
My business name, “Blue Nose Trading” originates from our blue nose pitbull, Azuci, who is a light of sweetness in our life. My logo is an original acrylic canvas painting of Azuci by myself.
Throughout my work, I aim to stay true to myself and my authentic, intuitive sense of expression.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
In my view, the best thing society can do to support artists and creatives to creative a thriving creative ecosystem is to buy our work. We as artists have to exist within the framework of society, and in our human bodies. Thus, we need to eat, and food cost money, as do our supplies. So please, buy the work of artists in your community.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
In my life, I am trying to live true to myself and my natal chart. The underlying drive to my creative journey is to free myself from the chains of a traditional work system through the shared and created value of my authentic self-expression and dedication to excellence. At the end of the day, I am working for my freedom of autonomy, and to set ground for those who come after me, and wish for the same space for their own such creative liberty.
