We were lucky to catch up with Tori Price recently and have shared our conversation below.
Tori, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your creative career sooner or later?
Ever since I can remember, I’ve loved to sing and create for fun. However, my mindset changed when I was accepted into Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. It was there that I fell in love with the genre of jazz and I learned about the many possibilities of making a career out of music. Fast forward 5 years, I am now a PreK-8th grade classroom music teacher and am a paid musician for the Catholic church. As I’m nearing my 30s, I have more confidence in who I am, what I can offer, and what I am good at. Although I would have liked to have started my professional career of music and content creation at an earlier age, that notion is derived from the pure passion for what I do now. The creative arts takes time and many, many hours of practice to hone in your skills. As a devout believer in Christ, I know that God has a master plan and I am grateful for the opportunities in which life has unfolded for me.
Tori, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a professional musician, music teacher, and content creator. I teach PreK-8th grade music at a private Catholic school in Nashville, Tennessee and I sing for various Catholic churches throughout the Diocese of Nashville. Aside from music, I also love to incorporate my love of fashion and photography into my social media channels. I enjoy working with brands that align with my interests and am constantly finding new ways to express my creativity with my online community. In terms of personal projects and goals, my husband and I are working on a Catholic album of original music. I would also love to write and record a children’s lullaby album someday.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being creative in your experience?
Aside from the pure joy that I get from creating, I love when my love of the fine arts can positively impact another persons life. As a music teacher, I adore seeing my students learn, grow, and develop their skills and interests within the fine arts. As a musician for the Catholic church, I love how my voice can help lead and guide others to sing and glorify God during church services. As a content creator, I love inspiring others to create and explore – whether that be with photography, fashion, and/or music. To me, life is all about helping others and making them feel loved and one of the best ways that I know how to do that is by giving back to the community through my own unique talents and interests.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Always be your true and authentic self. One of the first videos I ever posted on YouTube was an a cappella cover of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” and it was a gift to my grandmother when she was sick in the hospital to bring her comfort. It was a project that came from the heart and now years later people are still listening to it and commenting that it brings them joy and peace too. Everyone wants to be “popular” on social media, but it’s important to remember your “why” for creating. What are your values? How can you stay true and authentic while also building your brand? These are questions you should always be asking yourself.
