We recently connected with Tori Martin and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Tori, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I knew from an early age that being a country artist was what I wanted to do with my life. When I was 14 I started singing in church and through that I had the opportunity to start recording. I began writing my own songs and honing in on my craft. At the age of 16 I went to Nashville to record an EP for the first time, and from there I started on my musical journey!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’ve always been armed with the positive outlook and life motto of “just show up,” through my career. In 2020 I signed a record deal with LuckySky Music as their flagship artist. I’m most proud of being authentic with my music and sharing my life’s story through song. I’m excited to release a new body of work produced Bill Warner that feels so true to who I am. I can’t wait to share more of the new music I’ve been working hard on this year!
Have you ever had to pivot?
When I was 19 I went on American Idol. As a little girl I always dreamed of one day auditioning for the show! That dream came true when I got the golden ticket and headed to Hollywood. However my journey was cut short in the infamous Hollywood rounds. Looking back that was one of my pivot moments. It hurt to face that rejection, and I could have just given up after that happened. I decided to pull myself up by my bootstraps and use the momentum created from being on the show. I recorded new songs that were in my heart and played more shows across the southwest region. I’ll never regret my time on the show, because it gave me thick skin and led me to where I am today.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My greatest dream is to share what I love to do with the world, and that is to sing and make music. I love to be on stage and connect with my fans. To me, that’s home. I hope to leave this world a little better than I found it!
