We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tori Gibson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Tori, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How’s you first get into your field – what was your first job in this field?
I got my first fitness related job at CrossFit Barkada. I was working at a hotel at the time and hated it. I was finding any opportunity possible to be in the gym and work on personal goals like getting my first muscle up or what competition I could do next. The owners of the gym saw my passion and was in need of a new coach. They asked if I’d like to help manage the gym (admin work) and if I’d be interested in getting my Level 1 and start shadowing the coaches. It was a dream come true! I was able to leave my job and start working towards what I was really passionate about. I loved the gym and the community and the fact that I could help people reach their goals everyday.
Tori, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Tori! I’m a single mom to the best little girl. She truly is my world and everything I do is for her. My number one goal is to be a positive role model for her and to stay as healthy as possible to continue to go on all of life’s adventures with her.
I am now the studio manager of Rocky Mountain Strength and I get to surround myself with like minded individuals everyday.
Growing up I was always very active. Played sports and always outside looking for the next adventure. I have continued this lifestyle and try to help motivate people to do the same. I am very competitive and love the outdoors.
At RMS I co-run our BOOTYBUILDERS class. This class focuses on strengthening the lower body with an emphasis on the booty! I also work with athletes who want to improve their strength in Power and Olympic lifting. As the studio manager I want to make everyone feel welcome and make sure their hour with us, is the best hour of their day. I feel like I have a purpose in what I do and I am so lucky to be at the best gym.
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
I think your personality and how you present yourself is just as important, if not more. Most people see you on social media or in passing before they learn anything about you. So many people reach out to me because they love my energy or see me as a mom still doing the things I love in the gym and that’s what draws them to me.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Having Zach (Owner of RMS) as a mentor has been so amazing for my journey. He has taught me so much on how to market yourself and has built an amazing gym and community that allows you to put yourself out there without any judgement. He helps build me and all his coaches up and never hesitates to help us improve with feedback or adjustments. I’ve never had so much success until I joined his team.
