Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tori Belle-Miller. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Tori, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I believe the key is to find your niche — see what the needs are and fill them, even better if those needs can be filled in a unique way for a price that is reasonable for your client base but profitable for you. Once you have happy customers, they will tell their friends, families, and coworkers about you. Word of mouth is very powerful. A great deal of business has come my way through word of mouth. If you have found a way to make a living, doing what you love, that is success to me.
Tori, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Growing up, I was into arts and crafts, but I discovered my love for graphic design in college after taking a magazine design class. I thoroughly enjoyed doing the projects and felt an excitement I hadn’t felt before. I now provide freelance graphic design services — print collateral, digital graphics, branding, websites, signage, etc. I help bring my clients’ ideas and vision to life. While I do work with established businesses, several of my clients are small business owners and entrepreneurs. I take pride in helping my clients establish a brand or build upon a brand that isn’t fully developed. I create unique, eye-catching designs that make my clients stand out.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I am so grateful that I get to design for a living. Not everyone gets paid to do what they love. The ability to wake up every day and create is truly a gift from God. I like to call it co-creating with God because I know my skills and creativity come from Him. And to see what I create on street corners, on websites, on coffee tables, etc. is very cool and rewarding.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
When I first started freelancing, I had to build a name for myself. I didn’t have a large portfolio of work or many years of experience. I did volunteer design projects and small projects for friends of friends to build my portfolio and get my name circulating. Slowly but surely, through word of mouth, I started attracting new clients, and some became repeat clients that I still have today. I was able to build a strong and varied portfolio of work and build my reputation as a designer.
