We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful TopNotch Swave. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with TopNotch below.
TopNotch, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
One of the biggest risk I have taken in my journey was actually putting myself out there to the world. In this day and age where music is enjoyed by all ages, it is also consumed at a faster rate due to technology advancing. The scariest thing from this journey was me believing in myself to not just put my art out but to put myself out there for the world to see. From my personality, to my looks, to my art, all of these things had to be consistent and paired with each other for me to grow a fan base and support from strangers. The risk that I took by first capturing an audience on a early app (vine) from 2012-2015, helped me grow in numbers of people gravitating to my personality as well as giving my early days of music a chance. That later turned into a consistent fan base to not just like me for me and art but my merch. I was able to generate enough sales in merchandise to not work an actual job for three years due to support. As I am currently still trying to break into the industry, I can say that taking the first step, the biggest risk of my life so far, has helped me tremendously in so many ways.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
So for those who don’t know me, I am an artist / rapper born and raised from Atlanta, Ga. My real name is KaMario Belcher but my artist name “Swave” came from my late sister Keshawn. I added “TopNotch” to it by 10th grade once I started taking music serious. I came into the scene and grew a fan base from “Vine” when it was a thing. That later turned into longevity and consistency with supporters who grew / continue to grow with me til this day. My job is to create art that not only I enjoy but the world. I’ve had singles and projects based off my own mental battles that a lot of people told me they could relate to which has helped them learn that they aren’t alone as somebody else is also facing problems in this world that they are dealing with as well. My brand is myself. My job with my brand is to continue to get my name and art out to the world the best way I can. Whether I make it main stream or not, I at least want to be able to say that my ideas from my head that I brought into fruition was enough to capture attention and hearts across the globe by strangers and smile.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
What helped me build a reputation with my business is the fact that I was and am genuine and authentic with my actions. My intentions and art is who I am. I share things as deep as my mental issues, battles, wins and losses. My happy moments, club moments and more. I find a way to put all of these things into music and kick it out to the world. That is one thing that has tremendously helped me with my audience in my field
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
The best source of new support is definitely social media. From Twitter, Instagram and Facebook to even my own website that I direct traffic into at www.TopNotchSwave.com. All of these things matter and are needed to get clients / fans
