We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tonya Dawn Recla a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Tonya Dawn thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Too often the media represents innovation as something magical that only high-flying tech billionaires and upstarts engage in – but the truth is almost every business owner has to regularly innovate in small and big ways in order for their businesses to survive and thrive. Can you share a story that highlights something innovative you’ve done over the course of your career?
Our entire platform is based on innovation. We encourage, inspire and challenge others to innovate in ways that support the betterment of humanity. One of the biggest innovations we accomplished at Super Power Experts was the creation of the Superpower Network, a collaborative podcast network ranked in the top 1.5% of podcasts globally. As part of our commitment to creating collaborative models, we chose podcasting for both educational marketing and proof of concept. The success of our collaborative model, built from scratch, required us to have the courage to operate differently from the market and hold to our vision in the face of opposition. We continue to believe in the power of collaboration and seek to incorporate it in all aspects of our business and life.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
At Super Power Experts, we know co-creation to be the Prime Initiative for humanity. Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
We provide solutions for those who manage teams and want to better understand human group dynamics. To this end, our entire business journey offered the playground for trying new strategies and perfecting methodologies. This is why we’re so passionate about educating social impact professionals and organizations in energetic communication and sensitization skills. The majority of human exchange happens in subtle ways and requires a sensitization and understanding of energetic dynamics in order to successfully cohere teams. Our advice for creating solid, inclusionary, harmonized teams is to expand your awareness and then create the environments, physical or virtual, to support high levels of performance and coherence.

Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
I met my cofounder and business partner right after I finished writing my first book. Following my profession as a counterintelligence special agent, I took a hiatus and wrote a book based on my experiences called, W.A.R. Watch, Assess, React – The Ultimate Guide to Personal Power and Safety. Shortly after that I accepted a position teaching at the Counterintelligence Special Agent Course and met my future spouse on the first day. From that moment on, we worked closely together on many projects. When I was asked to create a 40-hour course on critical thinking, he helped me teach difficult concepts like in-group/out-group dynamics, social identity theory and ego deconstruction. From there we got married, birthed our amazing daughter, Neva, and struck out on our own in business. We committed to many things, including creating a life that we never wanted to take a vacation from and pursuing entrepreneurship in a way where Neva could be involved. We formed the original collaboration and co-creation team that led to the discovery of our practices and principles and inspired the Creative Energy Field Activation (CEFA) modality we use to guide teams. And, Neva became a success in her own right. She asked for her first business cards at age two, wrote a best-selling book by age 9 and was featured in the Top 40 Under 40 in Podcasting at age 10.
