Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tonya Cummings. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Tonya, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
Patsy’s Daughters Moved Abroad
Tonya Cummings & Nicole Katie Cummings
After closing Katie’s Cakes in December 2021, we created our final product called “Katie’s Cakes Master Class”. Afterwards we decided to move to Merida Mexico. We arrived in Merida Mexico in February 2022 to begin our healing as a family. During our process of healing we started a business called “Patsy’s Daughters Moved Abroad” to heal others. Tonya is an International Client Concierge, where she works with Soul Tribe Heals. She coordinates appointments and accompanies clients for Traditional Ancestral Healing Ceremony & Sobada. In addition to being a Consultant, she also provides Recorded Yoga Nidra Guided Meditation to clients in helping them on their healing journey.
Katie has now discovered a new talent for writing. She launched her first poetry book called “Nicole Katie International Poet”. The digital flip book contains fourteen poems that she created. Her books have been sold thus far in Mexico and the United States. Nicole’s poems give inspiration to children and adults. Her poems inspire us to dream, have fun, and to think big. Nicole Katie International Poet has improved her reading and writing as a 5th year homeschool student. Also, she has a YouTube Channel called “Katie’s and Patsy’s Travels”. The channel features travels, food, new cultures, and having fun.
When we moved abroad two other family members decided to join us on the journey. My sister Ebony and my niece Patsy joined us on this journey to Merida Mexico. We added another service to “Patsy’s Daughters Moved Abroad” called “Elegant Simple Living Relocation” Ebony assists families to visit or relocate to Merida Mexico. She carefully walks the families through with a checklist leaving the United States to Merida Mexico. Once the families arrive Ebony continues the “hand holding” and adjust to the culture.
Starting Patsy’s Daughters Moved Abroad in another country has been meaningful and fulfilling.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Hello, my name is Nicole Katie Cummings. I am a 8 years-old kid Entrepreneur Chef that bakes cakes. The name of my company is “Katie’s Cakes” Twist of Soul Dessert. I am a third-year Home School
Student at the Tonya Cummings Academy. My favorite subjects are reading and addition.
All my love & happiness goes into each cake that is baked! Each homemade cake is made with love and
simple ingredients. I want my customers to feel love, want, and happiness when they eat a slice of cake.
When I am baking cakes, I love to sing to my cakes, it makes me happy. Also, I like to dance to my cakes,
it gives me joy.
In June 2020, my mother and I went to our local Post Office to drop off a package. I was speaking with
the Postmaster and I told her that I bake cakes. She then said I will be right back. She went and gave me
$20.00 and told me to bake her a cake. So, my mother and I came home and did just that. We baked her
a Lemon Love. This when I started Katie’s Cake. My future goals are to study culinary in Paris as a Chef
and to open a restaurant.
My first community event was at the “Juneteenth Celebration” in Fredericksburg, VA. I sold out of
Lemon Love and Always Almond Pound Cake Slices. Even Delegate Joshua Cole was impressed with my
Pound Cakes. Thereafter, I was able to book events at Chalk N More in Fredericksburg, VA; The Long
Farmers Market in Stafford, VA; and FXBG Black Restaurant Week in Stafford, VA. I am grateful for my
community and customers for supporting Katie’s Cakes. Even some of the local restaurants have been
receptive in allowing their customers to try Katie’s Cakes.
Any fun sales or marketing stories?
As an International Client Concierge obtaining my first client was scary. This was a service that I created in the United States and seeking clients in a new country. I didn’t have an international portfolio. I marketed this business in the United States and it was unsuccessful. I reached out to Soul Tribe Heals Owner (Sistah Yaya) and told her how my services could improve her customer experiences. After demonstrating what I could do for her company, she obtained my services a couple days later.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
After closing Katie’s Cakes Online Bakery and moving to another country was quite overwhelming. We had no blueprints or plans of what to do next. So, we started taking inventory of our skills and talents. This is when Nicole developed the passion for writing. Also, this is when my Sister and I developed to help others to visit Mexico for healing. So, you have to be creative and repurpose your gifts and talents. We didn’t allow the new culture and language to hinder our talents. This is what “Patsy’s Daughters Moved Abroad” is all about!
