We recently connected with Tony Valor and have shared our conversation below.
Tony, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Any thoughts about whether to ask friends and family to support your business. What’s okay in your view?
It’s a pool of mixed emotions on this one. On one hand I look forward to asking my family to support my music they’re are some that will that’s a small number.
On the other hand compared to large number of friends I don’t look foward to my friends
supporting me as many as I have only a few faith ones will engage with the music.
The strange thang about this industry is my friends will engage with an artist they don’t know before they engage with someone they do know and promote, and not just mines yours as well its the mental of finding an artist yo can say I was there at the begining I guess
Tony, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I come a from musical background my great uncle J.B. Lenoir was signed with Chess records he created Alabama Blues and his biggest song was Korean bules he used candid political critiques in many of his song lyrics.
This was my Grand Fathers brother, my grandfather use to play as well, but it was his daughter my auntie. Pattie Lenoir that had a family band that consisted of my two cousin and myself Robert Felix on Drums and his brother born as Revail Felix aka Saddiq on Bass guitar I was introduced to music threw this group at the age of 6 I started off on congas and then to keys and Synthesizer,
In my high school days the urge to quit the track team and go full-time in making music hit me hard and started recording my music at home after school. I joined a group called the New Breed we did shows at Sky Lounge in Chicago, parks, Austin Town ect
After a while I started my own group with my good friends the Twins aka Durrell Clinkscales and Darryl Clinkscales aka the twin’s they played Bass guitar and Drums. I was playing lead and rhythm guitar now, we used another friend as the Lead Singer Jerome Royal we named the band (First Class)
Later on Romance leader of the New Breed ask could he use my equipment to do a demo for a local house label D,J, International. I let Romance use my studio and I mixed his song. All Dis Music and the track got him signed and later on me to label. The Song went on to become all time Classic hit in the UK and that’s a whole other story.
House music was huge in the Chicago and was getting world wide recognition.
I was doing house parties in my basement in Chicago. At my Grandparents home and this house was once the governors house back 1800’s. It had a door in the floor that opened to go the basement like one on the TV show the Monster’s, So I called it the Dungeon. I rocked that place playing house music for 4 years and became a popular DJ on the south side of Chicago that was wanted by local schools for events as well some law firms downtown later on.
I started working with and organization by the name of T.O.M.A by my mentor aka Sax Preacher. He calls me one day and say I have a someone that wants you to make a house song for them.
He introduced me to Dwyane Chapman actor and model he took my song back to Los Angeles with him and later on calls me to say the company wants me to come to Los Angeles to record the demo for him.
That’s how I got here to Los Angeles and I saw the opportunity that at that time wasn’t available in Chicago that’s and how I got into the business here.
About My work ethic when I work with an artist I tailor make the product, it’s not from a library of pre made beats or loops everything is from scratch this is to expose them as the main instrument. I found this prevail the best results.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Nothing beats word of mouth these are this is the best advertisment , doing a good job keeping your customers happy can bring you more business than paying for ads they still work but word of mouth has been King for me.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I would have to say quality of work produced for the client
