We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tony Ohara. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tony below.
Tony , appreciate you joining us today. Do you wish you had waited to pursue your creative career or do you wish you had started sooner?
I can’t say that I got started too late in pursuing the career of actor/ stuntman but I can see how starting younger would have it’s advantages. When your 18 the body can handle a lot more damage and you have more then enough time to perfect your craft. I don’t regret when I started because that’s just part of my journey and it gave me time to accomplish other things. If I had started when I was 18 then I probably wouldn’t have created a card game, wrote a book, or traveled to the countries I’ve been too. It’s all give and take and I’m more then happy with where I’m at. It will all come together
Tony , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I got started with doing background work. which I have to come to find that a lot of actors and stuntmen start there as well. It’s a great place to learn the lingo and see the energy and pace of a movie/tv set. You can watch the techniques of professional actors or if your trying to get into stunts I have seen people use background work to try and meet stunt coordinators. If aspiring to become an actor or stuntman then you don’t want to stay doing background but it does have its advantages when first starting out
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
When I first got into background work and being on sets I was actually homeless. No car or anything. I remember one day in particular where it was 100 degrees outside and we filmed for 16 hours. After we wrapped I walked 2 miles to this park and tried to sleep on this old park bench for a few hours just so I could wake up and do another 16 hours the next day
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My goal is to become and A list celebrity and the money that comes with it. But not for the reasons that most people want that stuff. I want to become a celebrity so I have more of an audience to reach and a bigger platform to speak on. I want people to know that you don’t have to stay down forever and that you always have more in you then you think. I want the money that comes with fame so I can help more people. I do what I can with volunteering but with more finances I could make a bigger impact
