We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tony Harts II a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Tony , thanks for joining us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
I honestly feel like the biggest risk that I’ve taken is leaving the Memphis Fire Department to focus on my purpose, which is music and being a creative. There was a lot of controversy in my personal life because of my decision, but as always I kept faith in God and went with my move. Life is too short to be timid or afraid to chase a dream that you have so, go for it and give it your all it’ll pay off .

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
For those that may not know me, my name is Tony Harts II and I go by HartbreakTone and I’m from Memphis,TN. I have been doing music since 2019. I stopped for a year or two and began the journey again in 2022. I left the Memphis Fire Department so chase my dreams. I personally believe whatever it is in life you love or have a passion for you should most definitely chase that dream . There will be trials and tribulations but hard work pays off. I have been into music all my life. I use to freestyle and beatbox on the way back from track meets on the bus. My close friends are able to vouch on that. In 2019 while finishing up my senior year of college at Mississippi State University, I began recording for the first time. I would drive almost 2 hours from my school’s campus to record at people’s house. In January 2022, I learned how to record myself and I’ve been going at it consistently ever since. The only problems that I’ve faced so far is in the beginning I didn’t have the resources, but over time I gained more knowledge and resources. I’m still eager to learn more to continue to perfect my craft. I honestly can’t wait for this 2024 run just know it’s gonna be epic! I’m most proud about the progress that I’ve made while chasing this dream. Leaving the fire department and chasing my purpose is paying off. I celebrate every win small or big and, I take every L(lose/Lost) as a lesson no doubt . In order to win sometimes we have to take some losses. My music is just be vibing and expressing myself. Tuning into my music and brand is literally a great way to get to know me. Everything I do is genuine I pretty much just be myself at all times .

Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
I have had a great bit of experience with this topic. People that don’t have any ambition or are complacent will never understand a creative. People like that are afraid to be themselves and are afraid of what people may think of them. This is a lane that you’re constantly putting yourself out there in front of a world full of people with no filter. As a creative you have to be prepared for that and just treat it as white noise.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My goal is to inspire someone and touch lives of a consumer of music the same way my favorite artist have done with myself. I genuinely want to build a connection with my fans.
