We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tony Good At It a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Tony , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I’ve always been a music lover since a child. I have a cousin named Sean who would watch YO MTV Raps on Saturday mornings. I was so intrigued by the beats and rhymes. But I didn’t actually want to become an artist until I heard Juveniles 400 Degrees album. Shortly after that I started writing raps and going to the studio.

Tony , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m Tony Good At It from Decatur Georgia. I got into the music world in my early teens. When I was in middle school we would have rap battles. Being involved in the music industry consist of late nights and early mornings. You have to be able to accept constructive criticism. Money will have to be invested towards marketing and advertising your music. What sets me apart from others is my unique style and sound. Also I feel like I take the craft serious than others. I’m most proud of my work I have released so far.

Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
Non creatives don’t understand what comes with being a music creative. The sacrifices, the time devoted, and the song creating process. A lot of people take it for a joke. If a person that’s never done music or played any instruments doesn’t know the passion for it.

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
They help by reposting the creatives music. A repost, tweet, or share is free it doesn’t cost money to do that. Nobody cares when you’re on your grind but the minute you receive recognition or success everyone loves you then. I feel like this if you wasn’t with me doing the process don’t try to come around and reap the reward when you feel like I made it. I will say this your most support comes from strangers and not the people who knows you.
