Tony , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?

To excel as an artist, it’s important to practice regularly and stay open to new ideas and techniques. Treating your art as a business means being professional, showing up on time, and ensuring your clients are happy. Standing out from other artists and actively promoting yourself is also crucial. There is a stigma in the industry with artists being flakey and I hear it all the time. They hired someone who showed up late or not at all. It isn’t a good look for someone who wants to be an artist as a career.

Tony , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

My name is Tony, my artist name is ToneCastle. I specialize in large scale paintings and murals and work with local businesses as well as Fortune 500 companies. I also paint live for events. The business grew out of the 2020 pandemic when our gallery was shut down and I had to switch from canvas to walls. I’m always trying to grow my skill and expand my portfolio to multiple mediums.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?

Years ago when the algorithm for instagram was much different I would paint trending topics or images. Comic characters were always popular. I would recommend familiarizing yourself with how the algorithm works, and to study the way other artists in your niche with large followings handle their social media.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?

I had quit my day job to start being an artist full time just before the Covid shutdown occurred. I learned a lot about myself and knew I had to make something work. I think it’s important to really stick to your passion and never give up on your dreams.
