We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tonita B a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Tonita , thanks for joining us today. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
The biggest risk I ever took was leaving my six figure career after getting released from Federal Prison and starting my own business. Everyone said I should have held on to my job as it was a blessing for a “Felon” to be in such a high position working for a Government HMO. I considered all those opinions but I knew what was IN me was greater than what the world saw. I knew that I was not purposed to make others wealthy, but build wealth for myself. Betting on me and taking a risk by doing what was in my heart to do has paid off greatly for me. I am a serial entrepreneur with successful businesses. Do I miss my regular income, hell yes, but I would not do it any other way. No regrets. Lessons and Blessings

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am Tonita B. I am a mother, grandmother, sister, friend, lover of God and I have this crazy belief that I can do whatever I set my mind to. I own and operate a Healthcare training company, we sell luxe scrubs, teach every healthcare class known to man and give people an opportunity to gain an entry level position into the healthcare industry. I also own a business consulting company where I do brand deals, PR and management for athletes, celebrities, musicians etc. I have a product line that uses hemp and CBD and I own a landscaping business. I am a podcaster with two shows on Roku. I love to cook, talk shit and write. I have authored EBooks and plan to write my life story one day to inspire all to go for whatever the IT is that fuels them.

Can you open up about a time when you had a really close call with the business?
I am living in my near death experience right now. One of my high profile clients who I call family , allows him to live with me, took him in when the world had shunned him turned his back on me with lies and stories and accused me of stealing his home. The irony is the home is in his name and you simply can’t steal a house but because the media like sensationalism over truth I have been all over podcast and blogs defaming my brand. I was ready to hide and give up but God said NO and today I am winning in court and I plan to retire off his NBA pension I am suing him for. People will lie and addicts will always be addicts protect you and your brand at all cost. Don’t be afraid of celebrities, they are humans and subject to error. Separate your personal and professional lives. My mistake was taking a stranger in, loving on them like God commands us to and calling him family. However the lesson learned is costly financially and emotionally but it’s learned.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Being sued by one of my biggest clients and having my name and brand slandered all over the news, social media and blogs for weeks at a time over a lie. I wanted to cower and hide, then I wanted to seek revenge and out him with some truths that would devastate his entire life but I prayed and stayed quiet. I am now winning my 30 million dollar defamation suit against him and soon with the right outlet I will tell my tell all about the highs and lows of celebrity management. Spill the TEA if you will. I didn’t shut my business down I simply stopped, and restructured and now I am rebuilding with clients who have a moral compass and possess the same integrity that I have personally and professionally. I am still standing with my head up, crown on.
