We were lucky to catch up with Tonia F Walker-Singleton recently and have shared our conversation below.
Tonia F, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Parents play a huge role in our development as youngsters and sometimes that impact follows us into adulthood and into our lives and careers. Looking back, what’s something you think you parents did right?
Raising children can be very challenging. Now that I am grown, I have a newfound appreciation for all the life lessons my mother instilled in my siblings and I.
Many days, I watched my mother work tirelessly to ensure my siblings and I had a stable foundation for life and the future. My mother taught us invaluable lessons like having a relationship with Jesus Christ, work, and family. Also, she taught us the importance of treating others with kindness because you never know who will have to come to your aid, walking with integrity, being true to your word, and always being grateful and humble for everything.
The lessons I learned early; have become essential in my life and define who I am today.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My story began as a child seeing individuals mentally, physically, and verbally abused. Unfortunately, being a child, there wasn’t much I could do except pray. As I grew older, I began working in various capacities within my church, specifically the Youth Ministry. My love for children eventually led me to become a Youth Counselor, where I focused on building relationships with teenagers and young adults.
Over the years, I continued to work within my church and volunteer with several local non-profit organizations like Hands on Tampa Bay and Metropolitan Ministries, serving meals and assisting the underprivileged throughout the Tampa Bay Community.
As a 30-year retired employee of Time Inc., I held several customer service positions that expanded my knowledge and skills in working with the public. I also obtained an Associate of Science Degree in Office Management Technology and Business Administration in 2006 and was ordained an Evangelist in 2015.
In 2009 I founded Beauty of a Woman Ministry, Inc., a faith-based 501c3 non-profit organization in Tampa, Florida. The main focus of this organization is to assist women to see their inner beauty while rediscovering themselves. The Beauty of a Woman Ministry, Inc. provides hope so women can become empowered by their abilities and gain the confidence to fulfill their full potential.
To further assist women in rediscovering themselves, I authored two self-published books. The first is “Transforming Into God’s Beautiful Butterfly – Uncovering Your Inner Beauty,” and the second is “My Identity Crisis – The Transformation Process.”
The Beauty of a Woman Ministry, Inc. provides programs that enhance the quality of life: financial literacy, empowered group sessions, mentorship, and spiritual counseling. We have programs like the Guardian Angel, where we collect and distribute socks, blankets/throws, and food to families and the underprivileged throughout the year. Further, we host an Annual Back to School Supply Giveaway and donate School Supplies to several area School Teachers.
Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
As a Faith-based Ministry, we engage with clients through methods like Facebook and Instagram, emails, text messages, and videos. The social media platforms allow us to upload encouragement videos. In addition, we provide clients with quarterly newsletters so clients can stay abreast of the things happening within Beauty of a Woman Ministry, Inc.
In this Ministry, honesty and trust are the most important ways to build strong customer relationships. This is why every client needs to have a good experience with Beauty of a Woman Ministry regardless of his or her situation. We believe in treating clients as individuals, not as numbers.
Further, Beauty of a Woman Ministry, Inc.’s primary goal is to be the best organization by serving the needs of the underprivileged and clients alike.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Stepping out on faith to start a non-profit organization has been one of the most challenging parts of this journey. During the infancy stage, I didn’t know any other woman who had started a non-profit organization that could assist me; nor did I possess the knowledge.
Therefore, I felt alone for many days on this journey. However, I vowed to learn all I could to make this organization successful. Today, I am happy to announce with all the challenges we’ve endured, Beauty of a Woman Ministry, Inc. has been serving the community for fourteen years through several programs.
