We recently connected with Toni Murphy and have shared our conversation below.
Toni, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Alright, so you had your idea and then what happened? Can you walk us through the story of how you went from just an idea to executing on the idea
I got started in 2018 as a wardrobe stylist which lead me to an internship in Atlanta. When I was working in Atlanta I was introduced to black women making their own rules and building businesses.
I wanted that and I learned as much as I could before returning back to Ohio and starting Top Style Branding.
I reached out to a woman to help me start, register and give me the insight on business. I didn’t know anything or had any money to fund my business. My mentor actually paid for my business registration.
I researched what I didn’t know and went for every opportunity that was either presented or I presented.
Before I launched I remember feeling excited yet so unqualified. I did it anyway.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Toni started her entrepreneurial journey in Atlanta in 2011 as a fashion stylist where she built strong industry relationships and a compelling portfolio. She was introduced to working with TV personalities, entertainers and designers. Gaining publications in EleV8 magazine, Grip magazine and TheFrontOfficeDaily.com positioned Toni as a feature writer and journalist. Interviewing Wild ‘N Out comedy star Darren Big Baby Brand, Celebrity Fashion Stylist/MidWest Kids owner Darryl Brown and Rapper A1 Bentley displays her ability to grow her industry reach.
Production, writing and fashion experience led Toni to create and launch her own company in 2015 molding all three elements. Top Style Branding was built on the foundation of faith, tenacity and God-given talent. Toni has introduced clothing brands for WNBA and NFL players. She has positioned celebrity fitness trainers and authors in media spaces that prevailed in their careers.
Giving back to the community serving her hometown police department by offering brand campaigns to hosting women empowering events since 2019, Toni continues to find impactful ways to stay connected with her audience.
While still working with brands, Toni has taken on many other roles in her growing career. Writing her first book titled My Brand Is Anointed has now made her a self-published author. Public speaking to audiences on branding, business leadership and public relations is now a true love of hers. Toni continues to show how others can turn their brand into a lucrative lifestyle while doing so with style.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I showed up everyday with intention even if I felt overwhelmed or unqualified. I knew that my clients were counting on me and I needed to be the example of excellence.
I over delivered with each client and never made excuses. Being punctual and being a woman of my word is key to me maintaining and building a strong reputation in my industry.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Honestly everyday I have to draw from my resilience. It’s not a day that goes by that I don’t question myself or my ability to sometimes be who I think I should be in order to live out my dream.
My resilience is apart of my DNA and I’m this far in my business due to pulling from that and having faith that it will all make sense and come together.
