We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Toni Moore a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Toni thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
Once upon a time I was a young girl growing up in poverty. I was full of hopes and dreams that one day I could get to the other wide of the road–socioeconomic class. I thought I could date someone to get to the other side. But that didn’t work. I thought I could educate myself to elevate myself to get to the other side of the road. But that didn’t work. I even thought if I worked for Influencers and Celebrities by diminishing my price to get to the other side of the road. But that didn’t work either. The only thing that worked was giving myself permission to become the Business Woman of my Dreams. And now I’m helping more women to BossUp and Breakthrough to levelup their business, brand and bank.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m a business lawyer and intellectual property strategist who has spent more than twenty years helping others build, brand and protect their business empires. Whether offering legal counsel, and solutions to startup visionaries, offering financial compliance solutions to financial experts, or offering legacy life solutions to small business owners, I provide solutions that protect empires. But I didn’t start from a wealthy home, nor was I nurtured to be a financial boss. Much like many who came before me and after me, I was taught to survive the life I was born in.
But survival rarely leads to success. When I was at my rock bottom experience, I had to choose between giving up or creating a story that reflected my dreams. When I chose to follow my dreams, I heard someone say that success leaves clues. So I’ve been picking up the clues and implementing the lessons to Bossup myself, health and wealth.
What I found is that I have everything I need to build, brand and build the type of wealth to finance myself and my legacy. And because I have broke through the Damsel in Distress Story, I’m on a mission to empower more women to manifest their own version of Wealthier Ever After Story too.
How did you build your audience on social media?
I built an audience on social media by just sharing my story, my passion and boss legal tips that helps others appreciate the legalities governing their realities. A few business coaches saw my tips and asked me to share with their audiences. And my audience grew. I started learning about snatching headlines and offering comments from my perspective. And my audience grew. I later started speaking at business conferences which increased my audience. And then I met an amazing client with a huge following and she started talking about me. And that increased my audience as well. Long story short, to build an audience you must first get clear on who you are, what you share and how you can help by offering your tips, tools and insight.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
The biggest lesson I had to unlearn was that people cared about my degrees, certificates and training. Don’t get me wrong, oftentimes education dictates your Elevation throughout a person’s career–I’m a lawyer. However, when you are a service provider that individuals achieve their dreams, you must lead with your client’s needs. Whether someone needs help building a business, getting healthy, protecting a trademark, or helping with probate matters, no one cares that I went to an Ivy League School, went to law school twice and I’m one class shy of attaining a CEBS and a CFP. Instead, my clients (and your clients too) want to know how they can get from where they are to where they hope to be and whether you’re qualified to help them based on YOUR RESULTS.
