We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tone Swing a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Tone, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
As long as I could remember. I was four years old practicing a stage routine in front of the couch. I saw thousands of people in the audience in my mind and I was eating it up. I never lost that. I’m extremely introverted but I’m hardly more comfortable anywhere else than on a stage. It doesn’t matter if it’s public speaking, accepting an award or best of all performing my art. I crave the stage. So it naturally makes sense I need to pursue some kind of career that involves performing on a stage.

Tone, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Tone Swing. My high school teammates called me Tone and I idolize Jodeci’s DeVante Swing so that’s how I got the name. I make music and I act. My biggest accomplishment so far is I’ve gotten to share my art with friends and family via the stage. Starting in late 2021 all the way through late 2022 I got to perform on stage, which is what I do best. Both acting and music. I’m looking forward to getting back on stage in the very near future.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
This is definitely not the only thing, but I have wanted a Lamborghini ever since 2016 when I heard Travis Scott say “Pulled out of the hood Toyota, drove back to the hood Lambo.” I keep telling myself it’s possible and everything I’m going through is leading me to my Lambo.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I used to think I could only be great at one thing. I didn’t want to be one of those music artists who is also a mid level actor or worse yet, a great actor who makes mid level music. I had to realize I’m as good as the work I put in. I can and will be great at both music and acting.
