Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tomorrow’s Young Leaders. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Tomorrow’s Young, thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about growing your team – how did you recruit the first few people, what was the process like, how’d you go about training and if you were to start over today would you have done anything differently?
Building a nonprofit has many factors from creating the board members to establishing fundraisers. When selecting the right board members we like to analyze the impact they have on the community; is it positive or negative? When we were recruiting the first few board members we looked for varies of characteristics such as accountability, leadership skills, organizational skills, authenticity, family orientated, passion, respectful, self-driven, compassionate, and much more. When choosing these individuals, we stayed within each others friend groups. We want to establish a group of motivated individuals that love to prosper and achieve bigger things. Once we have chosen those individuals, we reach out to them and invite them to our volunteering jobs with us. During this time, we were able to see how they work with the group as a whole. The fellow board members will get together and discuss the new prospect and we vote.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Tomorrow’s Young Leaders is a nonprofit set to redefine our own narratives, our communities’, our tomorrow, one leader at a time. We take all our creatives and put them together to create a difference in our community. We have helped teachers, students, nonprofits, and other major leaders around us. We like to create a culture that is respectful, compassionate, authentic, uplifting, determined, and consistent. Every year we have a scholarship giveaway to help college students in need. We help the less fortunate families with food drives and supply drives. We like to give back to teachers and help them with their school supplies needed for the children within their classrooms. At TYL, we provide shoes and other necessities to young children who might need a little help from time to time. We like to provide a safe place for anyone of any age to be able to come to us when they need some extra love.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Building your audience on social media can be very hard first starting off. You have to be extra strategic and consistent on your approach. You first need to define your target audience. After that you need to choose the right platforms, optimize your profiles, create a posting schedule, use hashtags, and most importantly, engage with your audience. The more you post, the more your page gets recognized.
How do you keep your team’s morale high?
To effectively manage your team and maintain a high morale, you have to have a combination of skills such as leadership, communication, and understanding. You have to give your team space to be creative in their own way. They have to feel comfortable expressing their ideas. As a leader, you have to create a positive work environment and maintain the positivity within the group.
