We were lucky to catch up with Tomorrow Brown recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Tomorrow thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I believe that achieving success requires an incredible amount of consistency, discipline, and hustle. While anyone can attend college or trade school to learn a skill, it’s the drive and determination to show up every day and strive for improvement that truly sets people apart. Personally, I have continuously worked to improve my craft—enduring long days as the first one in and the last one out, addressing my problem areas through research and practice, balancing parenthood and life, all while staying relevant in today’s fast-paced social media environment.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Tomorrow (like the next day), and I am a hair stylist specializing in texture and blonding, based in Maryville, TN.
Ever since I was young, I’ve loved working with hair—braiding and coloring my friends’ hair, as well as my own. The creativity and artistry that hair allows has always captivated me.
I offer a variety of services, including color, cutting, blonding/balayage, braids/locs, natural (texture) styling, and men’s cuts. Being a hair stylist is hands down my favorite job. My mission is to help people feel beautiful and confident in their own skin, and that’s what makes it all worthwhile. Bringing art to life through hair and expressing myself creatively is what sets me apart from other stylists.
What I’m most proud of is building a loyal clientele in a competitive industry while continuing to shine alongside so many talented local artists. I don’t view other stylists as competitors because I believe we all have so much to learn from one another. Ultimately, it’s about improving our craft to better serve our clients.
I am a passionate stylist, dedicated to helping people feel like the best version of themselves. Seeing clients experience their natural curls in their full glory for the first time—and witnessing their amazement at the results—is what makes this career so rewarding for me.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Word of mouth will always be the best way to grow a business. Social media is a fantastic tool for showcasing your work, but it’s client recommendations that truly highlight what sets you apart.
In beauty school, we were taught to hand out five business cards—one for the client and four for their friends—and I still use that strategy to this day. It’s a simple yet effective way to expand your reach and build a loyal clientele.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I am a wife and mother of two boys. Pursuing my dream career wasn’t easy—I went back to school while working a full-time job to make ends meet. Every day, I made sure my kids were ready and taken care of before beginning 10-hour days at school and always made it a priority to be there for bedtime. As well as working doubles as a server and picking up extra shifts whenever I could.
It was the most exhausting time of my life, but I’m so grateful for the struggle. Every late night and early morning was worth it to be where I am today, living my dream and doing what I love.
