We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tommye Jordan. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tommye below.
Tommye, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. If you’re open to it, can you talk to us about the best (or worst) investment you’ve made. What’s the backstory and the relevant context behind why you made the investment
The absolute best decision I made as a small business owner was hiring my long time friend, Kera Hartman. Kera and I worked together about 16 years ago. We had always stayed in contact over the years and she periodically helped me out with the business – digital marketing, form creation. In 2020, I had to adjust my business model due to COVID going more digital with our CPR classes. I hired Kera on as a CPR Instructor to assist with teaching as we had to limit our class sizes and offer more classes to accommodate for social distancing, safety and smaller student to manikin ratios.
As my business continued to grow, I realized I needed more administrative assistance. I asked Kera if she would be interested working for CPR Solutions as the CPR Solutions Training Center Director.
Kera has helped to improve processes, cover add on classes and ultimately help lighten my work load so I could focus on what is relevant.
As a business owner, it is so important to hire the right talent in order to improve efficiency as well allowing you to focus on growing your business.
Tommye, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
CPR Solutions is a National triple discipline American Heart Association Training Center. Some of our clients include the University of Arizona School of Medicine, Phoenix College, Tulane University, University of Arkansas and many, many fire departments among others. We began in 2005 in Phoenix, Arizona and have since expanded our Instructor base to over 1,200 Instructors nationally.
We help individuals throughout the country obtain AHA CPR certifications including CPR/AED, First Aid, Advance Cardiac Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support.
We strive to provide the highest level of customer service to our students and superior support to our instructors. We work with our instructors to grow their own small business and train students in their communities to educate on the importance of providing high quality CPR.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I believe the one thing that helped me build my reputation witin my market was providing superior customer service. I take the time to listen to my students and instructors and assist them with their needs. Most individuals require CPR for their school or workplace so I work diligently to make sure they get those certification cards in a timely manner. I have heard feedback from students over the years who trained with other CPR Training Centers and waited weeks for their CPR cards. We know the importance of getting people necessary information in a timely manner and providing them with excellent customer service.
How do you keep your team’s morale high?
With over 1200 instructors and as a team of two, it is so important for me to stay connected with my instructors. One example of how I stay connected with my instructors was creating a private Facebook page. This allows me to connect with my instructors, answer questions and create connections amongst instructors throughout the country. I also like to recognize my instructors individually by emailing them to recognize birthdays, anniversaries and positive customer feedback.
