We recently connected with Tommy Neff and have shared our conversation below.
Tommy, appreciate you joining us today. Parents play a huge role in our development as youngsters and sometimes that impact follows us into adulthood and into our lives and careers. Looking back, what’s something you think you parents did right?
My parents always worked hard and showed my siblings and I that hard work paid off. Making sure that we did chores regularly and that we took pride in the things we had was a very important aspect of the example they set for us. I wasn’t handed a lot for no reason. There was always some way I had to earn it. Whether it was by doing extra chores, washing cars, mowing lawns, picking onions with my Grandpa in Imperial Valley, etc. It had to be earned. Don’t get me wrong, I had nice things. but my parents made sure that I knew that nice things required hard work to earn them. My mother instilled in me at a young age that pursuing my dreams was most important and I knew being a business owner was one of them. Her encouragement helped me to know that my dreams were never out of reach.

Tommy, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a Navy Veteran from San Diego, California. I provide solar panel cleaning services in the San Diego and Inland Empire areas for residential and commercial customers. The service I provide is a simple one but it is essential to ensure your solar panel system is producing energy optimally. Many people don’t feel comfortable getting up on a roof and so that is where hiring an experienced professional, like me, comes in. We take before and after photos of each job we complete, so our customer can see the condition of their panels at the start and the transformation after we’ve worked our magic.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Customer Service! Being not only a friendly voice on the phone, but also a friendly face on the job. Currently, the business is ran by my wife and I and we work really hard to let our customers know they are important and appreciated. From the time we are contacted, we want our customers to receive a quote, booked appointment and completed service in a timely manner. We offer appointments 7 days a week, sun up to sun down. Our reputation has been strengthened by customer referrals. Thanks to community social media pages, people make a post looking for our service and our past customers tag us and share their experience with others in the community. As a small business owner, it doesn’t get any better than that!

Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
We keep in touch with our clients by sending reminders when they are due for a cleaning, sending out email blasts with promotions and post-service surveys to ensure client satisfaction. Social media also helps us to stay engaged with our clients. Who doesn’t love to see a photo of their clean solar panel array?! Good customer service and pricing go hand-in-hand when it comes to loyalty. We offer a 10% discount for all service members, as well as first-responders, always!! We also make sure and keep our pricing the best in the industry. At the end of the day, we care about our customers and by keeping our pricing competitive, it allows for our customers to return, time after time.
