We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tommy Little a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Tommy thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Do you feel you or your work has ever been misunderstood or mischaracterized? If so, tell us the story and how/why it happened and if there are any interesting learnings or insights you took from the experience?
Have I ever been misunderstood? Misunderstood is an understatement, that’s why I’ve been building my brand “Misfits” around the concept of being amongst the masses of the misunderstood, voiceless, outcasts of society. My goal is to show the world it’s okay to be a little weird, and that misfits can shine too.

Tommy, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I got into the Hip-Hop industry at a young age thanks to my late brother from another mother (Sean Michael Crabtree Sr). He had a heavy influence on me as an Artist, and showed me the ropes of the recording process and taught me what it meant to take pride in your craft. What sets me apart from your favorite mainstream media artists is my dedication to the craft, whether my music is heard by 10 people or 10,000, if even one person hears my music and it makes them feel good then my job as an artist/entertainer is done. My ultimate goal is to be a beacon of hope for the misfits like me in the world, as a part of this goal I’ve began to diversify as an entertainer and have taken up Boxing & MMA. Recently I had my first boxing match via StreetBeefs on YouTube under the alias “2 LIT”. I plan to continue working, training, and fighting until I can land a contract with a fighting promotion. Whether people find me as an Artist or a Fighter, I hope I can impact as many lives as possible!

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
As part of my entrance to the Fight Scene, I signed up for my first match on 3 months notice. During those 3 months everything that could go wrong, went wrong. From being ill in the beginning of camp, to suffering a rib injury in the final 2 weeks leading up to the fight. Even when all odds were against me I still stood tall and toed the line. If you happen to watch my match, you’ll learn that I did indeed lose, and in defeat I take no shame, and remain humble. Every loss is a learning experience and if you learned something, you didn’t lose completely.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
In my view, it’s as simple as not scrolling past the short videos of underground creatives. Stop take a second of your time, leave a like, share the link, comment etc. don’t assume your interaction won’t matter because it does. That second of interaction makes the difference between a creatives work receiving the recognition it deserves and it remaining a hidden gem.
