We were lucky to catch up with Tommee Profitt recently and have shared our conversation below.
Tommee, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?
My parents were VERY supportive of me and my music my entire life. And they were super influential in my making my way into the music industry. My whole life, they were always encouraging me in whatever it was that I was into. Whether it was magic tricks, collecting things, playing sports… they pushed me to really go after ALL IN whatever it was that I wanted to pursue.
I couldn’t have done it without their support. That was crucial; and that has shaped the way I look at the things that my own are into now that I’m a dad.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
When I was 11 years old, I would sit in my parent’s basement at the computer and produce instrumental music tracks, and then make albums that I would sell to my friends at school for $3. I basically have poured every single thing I have into my music for the past 25 years, and now I still make music on my computer, mostly “cinematic” stuff, but now it’s used in TV shows and movie trailers, and streams all over the world. These songs have accumulated over 70 Billion streams/views across platforms; and while it’s fun to hear these numbers from my label… I’m mostly just grateful that I get to do this. It’s a blast to make, and it’s exciting to see how far it’s reached.
On top of my own cinematic projects, I’ve been able to work with several world-renowned artists on their albums, and have had the privilege to write on and produce several platinum albums/singles, billboard #1’s and had several Top 40 Radio songs, including #1 with “Let You Down” by NF.
While there are SEVERAL things that I attribute to these successes… I think the number one thing I see people do that’s holding them back is not passionately pouring enough time/energy into their craft. For example, there is SO MUCH to binge watch/stream these days; and TONS of social media to keep up with. This can cause us to fill all of our time with wasteful consumption, instead of productive creation! Turn off the screens, and get to work! And don’t give up after 4 months… expect it to take 10+ years; and if it happens sooner, that will be a surprise!

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
The biggest pivot in my career was switching from a touring artist who traveled the country with my band performing on stage, to sitting in a studio all day producing other people’s music.
There was a time where performing on stage was my favorite (and most comfortable) thing in life. But once I got married and started having kids, it was really difficult to be gone that much. So I built a studio, and slowly wound down the traveling. In that new season, I quickly realized that my first love truly was producing in the studio. And that’s when the doors really started flying open for me.
I’m thankful that I still get to produce alot of my own projects, as well as other artists. I’ve created my own music my entire life, and if I exclusively made music for OTHERS, I think there would be a part of me (creatively) that would die inside. The freedom to create freely without dictation… there’s nothing like it!
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I think the most rewarding aspect for any creative is the RELEASE.
Whether it’s writing books, making movies, or making music… the release is where the rush is.
It’s fun to create and then share it with the world. Not necessarily focusing on how it’s performing (which can be helpful to inform you on future projects – maybe), but just sharing what you made.
How many musicians do you know that want to bring you out to their car to show you their new song?? lol – ALL OF THEM. Because we all love sharing the art we make. It’s engrained in us.
The streams/views is a bonus. But there’s a high just from sharing.
