Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tomika Wright. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am an analytical person which has been executed throughout my technical career as in Information Technology Professional with a background in software development. My interest in creative projects include both technology and crafting and sometimes combining the two. I like to analyze and figure out how things are made. I’ve always been a hobby crafter and toyed with the idea of being a business crafter for a while. I took the business jump and created Kaysia Unlimited, LLC, a provider of unique, hand-made crafts. Currently, the focus of Kaysia Unlimited is men’s and women’s jewelry and accessories. The name Kaysia was reserved for my future daughter. I did not have a daughter so Kaysia was birthed via my business. The name is associated with various meanings such as “pure” and “extremes in health, fortune and spirituality”`. The initial product offering of Kaysia Unlimited was waist beads to encourage and promote body appreciation among women of all shapes and sizes, specifically the midsection. Culturally, waist beads are an African tradition worn as a sign of spiritual wellbeing and protection as well as ornaments to promote body awareness and appreciation. Waist beads have also grown in popularity in Pop Culture. Many wear them simply because they are gorgeous, to accentuate their beautiful bodies, and/or as an ornamental tool in weight management. Waist beads can be confidently worn by all shapes and sizes and can be used to gauge changes in weight. They have also been known to aid in weight loss as well as shaping the waist. Traditional waist beads are tied on and do not stretch. They are worn until they are cut off or break and roll up/down with weight gain/loss. Currently, the focus of Kaysia Unlimited is men’s and women’s jewelry and accessories.

Can you open up about how you funded your business?
To fund Kaysia Unlimited, LLC I researched what’s needed and associated costs to start a business. I researched local, state and federal fees and business bank accounts. I also researched start up grants with no luck or direction so I decided to invest in myself. I started buying supplies and creating products knowing that there would be little to no recoup/profit in the beginning.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The best source of new clients has been word of mouth of customers. Friends of customers who love their items and want to know where they can get something similar. Second would be participating in pop up shops. Many people attend pop up shops to seek out and support small business owners.
