We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tomeeca Bonilla . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tomeeca below.
Hi Tomeeca , thanks for joining us today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
I think everyone’s idea of success is different. In my case it’s not always about the money. I have picked photography as a career because it’s brings me joy to see every client happy with the memories we have created. You never give up on your passion. Always have your camera ready at anytime and place. Never turn down a opportunity to promote your business weather it is payed or not. Free advertising will go a long way.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’ve always loved photography for as long as I can remember. I was definitely one of the kids in the late ’80s with a Polaroid and a wind-up camera everywhere I went. I took photographs of everything. The lady at the local photo store even knew me by name. I Graduated high school in Pensacola, Florida in 2003. Whew, I’m getting old. I didn’t really have much time for photography after school. It was time to work work work. I had my son in 2007 and found out I had cervical cancer and immediately had a hysterectomy after the birth of my son. Eleven months later his dad passed away. I know it’s sad but everything happens for a reason. In that moment I decided to live each day as it was my last. I took a few online courses and a couple of hands-on classes to keep my mind busy. As well as read every article or post about photography I could find. I would say Almost a year later I met my husband of 13 years now. He knew of my passion for photography and got me a camera for my birthday. I would never spend the money on myself. Since then, I have explored many different areas of photography and like to call my style creative and controversial. It’s more like art everyone has a different opinion and way it should be done. I’m a super creative quirky spontaneous kinda person. Always ready to try something new or push the boundaries of normalcy.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Posting on social media everyday and staying up with all the new trends and changes in the industry. Word of mouth. Offering free shoots in exchange for free promotion. Show your clients who you are. They wanna see your work but they also want to know the kind of person they will be working with. You won’t like every client and every client won’t like you but don’t let that discourage you. Most of all NEVER GIVE UP.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Yes my mission as a creative photographer is to make sure all my clients know and feel comfortable in their own skin. Self love and worth are so important. I feel the world has lost the value in just plain love and consideration for each other. I like to make sure my art make you feel the love the world has lost.
