Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tom Weber. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Tom, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What do you think it takes to be successful?
In order to become successful you have to have passion, drive and vision. Being a full time musician I really put the time in to hone my craft which as they say is 10,000 hours.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Being a children’s musician evolved out of me doing music for my class when I was a preschool teacher. The joy I received playing music for the kids and the support and encouragement of my wife gave me the idea that I could pursue music as a career .
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
In the beginning before music was my career I would play anywhere and as often as I could for free or little money to build up my reputation. I also released a self produced demo that my audience enjoyed. Over time word spread and started to snowball to the point where I could quit my job to do music full time.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
I play the preschool circuit, libraries, festivals, birthday parties and other special events which really helps in terms of continuously introducing my music to a new audience. Word of mouth has been key to my success! I am also lucky that my audience tuns over every 3 to 4 years.
