We were lucky to catch up with Tom Lyles recently and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, Tom thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Do you wish you had waited to pursue your creative career or do you wish you had started sooner?

Looking back i would have definitely started sooner than i did. Most of my hold backs were not having the right confidence n myself r my gift i was always looking 4someone 2b there 4me so i would wait on others instead of my doing all that i knew i was more than able of doing myself! I was an professional athlete at the tyme but always knew my art was my true destiny and here we r 2day!

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

I’m a big true believer n God the creator of all i try and attend services as often as possible just really being around other believers also I’m live taking care of other and helping n what ever way i most possible can as well working with kids/young adults through sports. I love workkng out and taking my well being very serous by staying n best shape possible. I love cooking and seeing people n-joy a greatly prepared meal which i believe it part of my artist side. I was able 2get n2 the bizness once i moved 2Minnapolis and recorded my 1st album as they were called during thise tymes also was able 2meet and Play bass on 2songs n studio recording with the late nut great Prince n 93/94 and things moved 4ward feom there as I’m still at it 12 album’s later!

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.

Just at the height of my career i was doing lots of shows and really creating a larg following around n 2Countrys and i had already had 3recorded records out on the market and was doing well i mean don’t get me wrong i wasn’t braking the bank by No means but i was doing what i loved and was meant 2do, however my son was young at the tyme and was b coming a household name n basketball 🏀. I stop cold turkey everything 2do with my music so i could b there teaching and showing him everything i had learned over the yrs playing the game and that went on 4many yrs. 2day he plays n the NBA. During that tyme i kept working and writing music/lyrics and sense then I’ve been able 2do evenmore Shows/Concerts and have released 9Records and I’m here 2day not giving up!

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?

Yes my lyfe my gift and 2help make as big difference n the world as possible!
