We were lucky to catch up with Tom Eshchar recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Tom, thanks for joining us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
I’m an agent of change.
It starts when I encounter a new place/person/organization and ends when I leave.
My goal is to leave it better then I found it.

Tom, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
The common thread in everything I do is the authentic story telling.
The three main realms it is most apperent are my photography, the events I organize, and my work as a consultant for tech companies. Each of thos three has a different story but they all require the ability to see people and technical details as a whole.
I try to take images that will make the viewr look longer at the photo. That it’s obvios that the still is on a sequense and has a past and a future. It make them want to try and figure out what those are.
I my events I challange the convention. I do that by creating spaces where people get out of their comfort zone. They think and feel different then their daily lives. They are aimed for growth with their community.
In tech I connect different parts of the company (such as dev teams and sales) and bridge gaps so that digital transformations are easier.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
To know how to fail.
Trying new things is the key to progress and I wish I knew that when I started.
In many cases I was afraid to try new techneques or methods.
Today I know that have I tried them, the loss would have been small in comperison to the growth I would gain.
Only about 10 years ago when I started reading and watching videos of the greatest athletes, seeing that even they failed (and embraced failure) did I realize its essential.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The exploration of stories through different media.
Sonder is one of my favorite words and since learning it, I try to live by it.
I try to remember that others have different journy then mine. That I do not know what my part in their story is.
I try to incorporate it into my art.
