We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tom Day a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Tom , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I grew up in the suburbs of Indianapolis. There I was equipped with a lot of creative outlets that a lot of kids don’t have access to.
My parents enrolled me in art lessons with a local artist named Carol Conrad. Her instruction artistically propelled me forward to be well prepared and to be as excited about the visual arts as possible. This is when I knew I’d never stop creating!

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Throughout my career, I’ve worked with a wide range of clients on various projects. I’ve had the opportunity to paint athletes for multiple professional sports teams, create album covers for music artists, and showcase my work in galleries and businesses across the U.S., from Indianapolis and New Jersey to Utah, Florida, Ohio, and Arkansas.
What I’m most proud of is the evolution of my work—pioneering digital painting in spaces like galleries while conceptually pushing myself to explore challenging topics such as toxic Christianity and consumerism. I believe it’s crucial for artists to use their voices, and I am committed to always using mine.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
One of my major goals as an artist is to encourage people to consider the other side of significant social issues or reactionary partisan narratives. I believe there’s room for nuanced perspectives on nearly every polarized topic in the U.S. Through my work, I aim to foster dialogues that introduce viewers to alternative narratives—ones that promote healthy criticism and offer new pathways forward.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I feel rewarded not just by the recognition and exhibition of my work, but also by the creative process itself. When I’m creating, I almost enter a trance—it’s one of the few things on this earth that truly calms me. The moment my Apple Pencil touches the screen or my paintbrush meets the canvas, I feel a deep sense of peace.
