We were lucky to catch up with Tom Coverly recently and have shared our conversation below.
Tom , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Do you wish you had started sooner?
It was not until being 50 years old, that I was featured in LA Weekly (top 10 influencer in America) and Forbes for the impact my school assembly is having on youth in school all over America. I also became a TEDx speaker. Watch here — https://youtu.be/OpDy_EzwTvo?feature=shared
Reflecting on my journey as a motivational entertainer, I can’t help but wish I had embarked on this path sooner. Having spoken to over 5 million people, I’ve witnessed the profound impact that inspiration and entertainment can have on individuals. It’s a remarkable feeling to ignite a spark within someone, encouraging them to reach their full potential. Despite the significant number of people I’ve already reached, I can’t shake the sense that I’m just getting started. Each interaction fuels my passion and reinforces the belief that there are countless more lives waiting to be touched. While I may have started later than I would have liked, the realization that my journey is only beginning fills me with excitement and a renewed commitment to making a positive impact on as many lives as possible.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Embarking on a journey from a college hobby in 1991 to a thriving professional career today. My transition from performing magic tricks during college at little kid birthday parties for a modest $50 to years later commanding fees ranging from $5,000 to $10,000 for corporate gigs is a testament to the power of passion and perseverance.
Recognizing the potential for growth, I invested time and resources into refining my act. I attended magic conventions, collaborated with seasoned magicians, and constantly sought ways to elevate my performances. The fusion of taking a close-up magic trick and making it play big on stage became my signature style, setting me apart in a competitive industry. I quickly became known as America’s Motivational Entertainer. Music Superstar, Paula Abdul says, “Tom Coverly is straight up a magical inspiration.”
I am most proud of founding the nonprofit, One Goal Productions.
The story begins with the realization that the world needed more than just information; it needed inspiration. Drawing from personal experiences and a deep sense of empathy, the idea of One Goal Productions took shape. The organization aimed not only to raise awareness but to create lasting impact through the emotional connection that entertainment can foster.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Motivational Entertainer, Tom Coverly (founder of One Goal Productions) is on a mission to use storytelling, art, and performances to engage audiences in meaningful conversations about mental health, bullying prevention, and personal development. The organization firmly believes that by combining the power of entertainment with insightful messages, it can break down barriers and stigma surrounding these critical issues.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Addressing Mental Health in Schools
One of the key pillars of One Goal Productions is its commitment to reaching out to young minds in schools. Tom Coverly recognized the urgency of addressing mental health and bullying prevention at an early age. Through captivating presentations and interactive sessions, Tom Coverly engages students in honest conversations, fostering a culture of empathy and understanding. The goal is not just to educate but to inspire the next generation to be advocates for mental health.
Supporting Teachers and Law Enforcement
Understanding that mental health is not confined to a specific age group, One Goal Productions extends its reach to teachers and law enforcement officers. By addressing the unique challenges faced by these professionals, Tom Coverly provides support and valuable insights on maintaining mental well-being.
Corporate Events: Becoming Better Human Beings
In addition to educational institutions and public service sectors, One Goal Productions actively participates in corporate events. Tom Coverly engages with employees and leaders, emphasizing the importance of mental health both in the workplace and at home. By promoting a culture of compassion and understanding, the organization aims to contribute to a positive work environment and, by extension, a healthier society.
One Goal Productions measures success not just by the number of presentations given but by the lasting impact on individuals and communities. Through partnerships, collaborations, and an ever-expanding network, the organization strives to create a ripple effect of positive change.
