We recently connected with Toccara Evans and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Toccara thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Over the course of your career, have you seen or experienced your field completely flip-flop or change course on something?
I left the computer tech field in order to be a personal trainer. Working with computers, digital marketing, anything online is my first love. I fell into fitness and training just from who I was around and the personal weight loss transformation I had for my self. The more I train clients and find out about them and their lives, jobs, needs… Its coming up more and more that they need digital marketing or social media help. Like the bible says your gift will make room for you and I truly believe that. Since working only with clients and starting my own business I have gained more clients that also need digital help, web sites, social media marketing, and just computer tech assistance than need actual training.
Toccara, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
After the military I wanted to be further away from anything fitness related. So computers it was with web design and marketing digitally. After a while in that industry my own health took a tole on me. Heart issues, auto immune disease and other things. Fighting through this while trying to maintain a healthy life of sort is what gives me a first hand account in how to deal with clients who have similar issues. Along with knowing what works in situations that ive lived through I went back to school as well. I have certifications in nutrition, exercise therapy, caffeine, blood illness, strength and conditioning training, auto immune diets and a lot more. Along with the fitness side I also manage business’ online with social media marketing, web design, graphic design and just how to structure their business better.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I went into business first thinking I had to have everything all together. Meaning finances, fancy brochures, a big social presence, disposable money for random expenses, and the main thing… a perfect body to show my work. After failing at that several times I realized or had no choice to realize thats not the case. I gained more clients just being me. No six pack, no money; literally; no fancy gym to train out of, no millions of followers online. Just by being me authentically and honest. Not selling my services but living my life and with God the clients have been coming to me without me even asking. I had to learn to let go and still do daily.
If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
Since I didnt choose this profession but instead I wanted the computer, behind a desk not in front of others, background profession instead I would say yes. I would have chosen fitness first. But things happen for a reason and I wouldnt honestly change anything that has gotten me here.
