Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tk Lawyer. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi TK, thanks for joining us today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
Success..Wow..That is one big, broad word that is interpreted in so many different ways by people.
As an author, I believe each author also defines success differently with the overall goal of making it BIG somehow. One author might think becoming another Stephen King is within her reach and would make her successful while another author might just want to sell a book or two. A third author might just want to write on the side as a form of therapy or maybe to do something fun in between working a full-time job that might be draining to her personality. Success is multi-defined, and, like beauty, its definition is definitely in the eye of the beholder.
For me, I believe success is waking up every morning and feeling good about yourself. It’s a general overall feeling of satisfaction that what you are doing in life meets your own internal sense of ethics and morality and that nothing you are, personally doing, is adversely affecting that general sense of well-being.
Success is taking pride in your work.
As an author, success is being happy with what you write, the words you wrote in a manuscript and how the sentences form an understandable story, Success is not contingent on readers. Yes, you read that correctly. Success, for an author, should never be contingent upon someone buying your work. You could write the next greatest novel and if no one picks it up, it does not mean the work was not awe-inspiring and worthy or praise. It might mean you may have to change your marketing tactic but that has nothing to do with the work itself.
I have interviewed authors, in the past, that stated just waking up in the morning and breathing is a success.
Success is whatever you define it and the definition can change over time and with one’s accumulated experiences.
For some aspiring authors, success, at the time, might be picking up that pen or opening up that laptop and typing a sentence or two down in their next greatest inspiration. For someone with a physical disability, it could be changing on their own or driving to the store in their own vehicle.
Whatever success is to you, it is attainable if you believe in yourself. Too many of us are too harsh on ourselves. We need to be kinder and gentler. In life, we are the only ones we can rely on, in the end, so why not be good to yourself, today and every day.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is to spread hope and happiness, not only through my stories but through my contacts with readers. I want readers to walk away happy regardless, if they purchased a book from me or not. I want readers to enjoy my stories and to open minds with adventure and creativity.
If a reader finishes one of my books and smiles or even if he/she tells me the story was enjoyable, I have accomplished my goal and that makes me happy.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I think, for me, the most rewarding part about being an author is the respect I receive for what I do.
There have been countless times I have heard people tell me “I can’t do what you do,” “I marvel at what you do,” or “I don’t have that talent.” Truly, it surprises me when people say this to me because writing comes easily to me- it always has. In high school I excelled at English, to the point that I was accepted into the Honors English class for my last two years of school. It was never something I struggled at so when I hear someone say it’s not their strong point, I find it fascinating plus it’s a huge compliment to me.
The respect one receives within the author community is also rewarding. Respect among other authors does not come with the job. It is not an entitlement. It is actually earned. Once authors learn who you are, how you are and the little, minute details about you that you would never consider important, they pull all that together and form an opinion of you. I am grateful that I have gained the respect of my peers and have found a camaraderie among authors that I wouldn’t have found doing any other work.
