We were lucky to catch up with TJ Johnson recently and have shared our conversation below.

TJ, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.

I first developed the idea for my jewelry business approximately 18 years ago. What began as a creative hobby gradually evolved into a part-time business as my passion for jewelry design grew and customer interest increased.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?

What I love most about being a jewelry artist is the opportunity to share my creativity with others. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing someone wear and enjoy a piece that I have created.

When I first started, my designs were made exclusively with chains and charms, which inspired the name of my business. Over time, my style evolved to incorporate vibrant beads and natural stones, allowing me to create pieces that are colorful, expressive, and full of personality.

Today, my jewelry is thoughtfully designed to uplift, inspire, and bring happiness to everyday life. Each piece features a bold and colorful selection of beads, carefully chosen to create a unique statement.

My goal is to design jewelry that not only enhances personal style but also brings joy and confidence to the women who wear it. I hope every piece serves as a happy statement—one that brightens a day and celebrates individuality.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?

One of the most valuable lessons I have learned as a jewelry artist is that quality is more important than quantity. For many years, I felt the need to create new jewelry almost every day, which often resulted in an overwhelming number of pieces for my customers.

Over time, I learned the importance of slowing down and being more intentional with my work. Rather than focusing on constant production, I now dedicate more time and attention to each design, ensuring that every piece is crafted with care, creativity, and purpose. This approach has allowed me to create jewelry that is more meaningful, thoughtfully designed, and reflective of the passion I have for my craft.
