We were lucky to catch up with Titus Walker recently and have shared our conversation below.
Titus, appreciate you joining us today. Your ability to build a team is often a key determinant of your success as a business owner and so we’d love to get a conversation going with successful entrepreneurs like yourself around what your recruiting process was like -especially early on. How did you build your team?
In the beginning, Ultimate Endgamers League (UEL) was just a small operation. It was primarily me, my wife, and Herb working tirelessly to build something we believed in. The first two years were particularly challenging. It was a lot of hard work and long hours, focusing on growing a community of like-minded gamers who shared our vision.
Recruiting the first few team members was a mix of luck, intuition, and perseverance. We didn’t have a conventional interview process initially. It was more about finding people who were passionate about gaming and believed in what we were trying to build. The first significant addition to our team was Courtney, who joined us after Herb. Together, we worked hard at growing our community.
Then we met Anthony, who had a keen sense of what we were building. He told us, “You have a unicorn, you know that, right?” and, “You know you have people who will help you build this, right?” Anthony’s belief in our potential was a turning point. He helped us recruit others who shared our passion. Marcus was another pivotal addition. He came in saying, “There is a lot I can offer this company,” and he wasn’t wrong. He built out the first UEL deck for advertising, which was a game-changer for us.
As we grew, more people joined our team. Luis, who presented the best-ever branding presentation and charged over $20k, later told us he just wanted to be part of what we were building because he “couldn’t sleep because he just kept thinking of the potential.” Ryan stepped up to the plate, and Doc joined to help build out everything in the building. Each new team member brought something unique to the table.
Looking back, I can see how everything fell into place. God placed the right people in my path, and I listened for the signs that they were the right people. If I were starting today, the one thing I would do differently is delegate more from the beginning. I spent a lot of time doing everything myself because I thought nobody could do it as well as I could. It wasn’t until Anthony told me, “If they can do it half as good, you have to let them,” that I realized I was holding the company back. Delegating tasks would have allowed us to grow even faster.
Building UEL has been an incredible journey, and while it hasn’t always been easy, it’s been rewarding. The key takeaway is to trust in the people you bring on board and to learn to let go and delegate. It’s the collective effort of a passionate team that truly drives success.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Sure, I’d be happy to share my story.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Certainly! Here’s the story of how we built our audience on social media, with a particular focus on the key role played by Luis.
### Building Our Social Media Audience
When we first started UEL, we knew that having a strong social media presence was crucial for reaching and engaging with our audience. Initially, our social media efforts were pretty grassroots, but everything changed when Luis joined the team.
### Luis’s Impact
Luis brought a fresh perspective and a wealth of experience in digital marketing and branding. Here’s how he helped us grow our social media presence:
1. **Strategic Branding**: Luis started by revamping our branding. He created a cohesive visual identity that resonated with our target audience. This included a new logo, color schemes, and design templates that we used consistently across all platforms.
2. **Content Creation**: He developed a robust content calendar, ensuring that we posted regularly and that our content was engaging and relevant. Luis understood the importance of variety, so our posts ranged from game highlights and behind-the-scenes looks to player spotlights and community events.
3. **Engagement**: Luis emphasized the importance of engaging with our followers. He made sure we responded to comments, participated in discussions, and created interactive content like polls, Q&As, and live streams. This helped us build a strong relationship with our community.
4. **Collaborations and Partnerships**: Recognizing the power of partnerships, Luis facilitated collaborations with influencers, gaming communities, and other brands. These partnerships helped us reach new audiences and grow our follower base.
5. **Paid Advertising**: Luis also implemented targeted social media advertising campaigns. By leveraging data and analytics, he ensured our ads reached the right people, increasing our visibility and attracting new followers.
### Advice for Building a Social Media Presence
For those just starting to build their social media presence, here are some key pieces of advice:
1. **Understand Your Audience**: Know who you’re trying to reach. Tailor your content to their interests and preferences. Use analytics tools to gain insights into your audience’s behavior and preferences.
2. **Consistency is Key**: Post regularly and maintain a consistent voice and visual style. This helps in building a recognizable and trustworthy brand.
3. **Engage with Your Followers**: Social media is a two-way street. Engage with your followers by responding to comments, asking questions, and encouraging them to share their thoughts and experiences.
4. **Quality Over Quantity**: Focus on creating high-quality content that adds value to your audience. It’s better to post less frequently with higher-quality content than to post often with mediocre content.
5. **Leverage Multiple Platforms**: Different social media platforms have different strengths. Utilize a variety of platforms to reach a broader audience. Tailor your content to fit each platform’s unique characteristics.
6. **Utilize Influencers and Partnerships**: Collaborate with influencers and other brands to expand your reach. Influencers can help you tap into their established audiences, providing a significant boost to your follower base.
7. **Analyze and Adapt**: Regularly review your social media analytics to understand what’s working and what’s not. Be willing to adapt your strategy based on these insights.
8. **Be Authentic**: Authenticity resonates with people. Be genuine in your interactions and let your personality shine through your content.
### Final Thoughts
Building a social media presence takes time and effort, but with a strategic approach and consistent effort, it’s possible to create a strong and engaged community. Luis’s expertise was instrumental in our success, and I believe following the principles he used can help anyone looking to grow their social media audience.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
It’s pretty simple. Doing what I say I’m going to do. At times it takes much longer than expected but I continue pushing to make good on promises I make.
