We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tito Crespo a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Tito, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
The most meaningful project I’ve worked on is the project I’m currently working on, “The Family Album”. This album is based on people and characters that I consider family. There’s songs about my immediate family, a song about work, a song about a friend, my home town, and of course some love songs; although they all feel like love songs to me. As I wrote this album I pulled on lessons that I’ve learned about myself and life from these muses. Each of these songs are layered with the intent and homage to family. They have grown out of just being about their muse into multifaceted pieces that highlight family in many ways. For example, there is a song on the album called “The Don” which at its core was song about my best friend that I wanted to spin as a love song. Yet, this song covers honor to a friend, respect for all women, and calls attention to the relationship of loving another person. Family is all we have on this earth as living beings and at the end of the day we are all one family in my eyes.
Tito, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hello everyone, my name is Tito Crespo and I am an artist with a passion for love, empowerment, unity, and truth. Music and and being on camera are mediums that I love to use to deliver a message. I grew up in Baltimore Maryland working at my family’s dry cleaners and two weeks after high school graduation I joined the active duty army where I spent three years serving in the desert at Fort Irwin California. During the army I had the most fun motivating other soldiers. One way this manifested was through calling cadences as we moved in formations. Cadences are songs we would sing as we marched or ran. My First Sergeant (Corey Stevenson) gave me my first big opportunity to call cadence as a Private which was against the tradition because usually that position was reserved for soldiers with more rank and seniority than I had at the time. Moments after beginning though, we all knew he made a great choice and I was glowing on the inside. Calling cadence is where I think I first discovered my voice and passion for singing. After the army I began community college in Baltimore and had my first formal introduction to the arts. I began modeling with a runway organization at Morgan State University in 2016 and since then I have immersed myself in the arts. Runway modeling lead me to print modeling and I found a lot of success in my first year and a half around the DMV area which prompted me to move to NYC and kick it up a notch. While in NY I attended and graduated Fordham University with a BA in Visual Arts. Since modeling began I have been singed to several agencies and have walked runways in NY, Tokyo, and Paris. Modeling is a great passion that lead me to a greater passion in singing and songwriting. Being a singer songwriter has allowed me to step into more purpose by delivering deeper messages with my work and its been a dream! My debut album “The Family Album” is set to release in the spring of 2023.
