Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to TiShawn Lee. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, TiShawn thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
My clothing brand name is Modesti…with an I. I wanted to name my brand something that had a deeper meaning and represented me…so I started looking up “things GOD said about how women should dress” and I seen 1 Timothy 2:8-10 about how women should dress modest so I came up with the name Modesti but with my own little twist. “Modesti is sexy” is our motto!

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m a wardrobe stylist, creative director and I also have a clothing brand called Modesti. I got my first start as a fashion stylist with VH1 Black Ink Crew Chicago and I’ve done other styling work from there. I created my brand Modesti before I even started styling. My brand started as a womens clothing brand but has since expanded to us adding unisex sweats which surprisingly has been one of our best sellers.

We’d really appreciate if you could talk to us about how you figured out the manufacturing process.
I recently went from wholesale to designing for my brand Modesti and let me tell you it’s a big difference! I’m pretty much a self taught designer and I just learn as I go. Finding reliable manufacturers to produce my designs has been a struggle and very costly. Manufacturing can also be a long process and very tidy. I’m still looking for the right manufacturer.
Can you share one of your favorite marketing or sales stories?
One of my biggest sellers with my brand is our “Golden Hour” dress which I dropped in 2021 and it sold out multiple times and still to this day I get emails and inboxes asking about the dress and when it will restock again. The way I market the dress by placing it on Eliza Reign it blew up fast and popular fashion blog Fashion Bomb Daily reached out to me to get it on their Founder Claire Sulmers and they posted it as well which led to many other celebs reaching out for it and some buying it as well.
