We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tisha Garcia a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Tisha , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Do you take vacations? Why or why not?
Yes I do take vacations. I get my next year’s calendar out 6-8 months ahead and start actually scheduling time off. I made the mistake of not doing that once and almost burned myself out.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Tisha Garcia and I own Perfect Petals Weddings and Events Florist LLC. I got in to the business over 30 years ago by going through a 5 month floral program. My company provides all the flowers needed for a wedding, reception or large event. We create custom wedding bouquets, wearable art, gorgeous flowers for arches, flower installations, centerpieces and more. We are always trying to find ways to create an event that is unique to the client. Because the floral studio is in my basement, I am able to keep my overhead lower than those with a brick and mortar. By keeping my overhead lower, I am able to offer flowers at an affordable price. I believe this really helps me to stand out apart from my competitors. I am most proud of my experience and knowledge that I bring to each event. I work hard to stay on top of trends and I am always looking for ways to improve my designs. I love a good challenge and really enjoy it when a client brings me one! I want my potential clients/followers to know that my team and I work very hard to go over and beyond our clients expectations. I have a strong believe in being transparent with my potential clients and to be direct with what they can expect from my company. Most of all, we love creating beautiful events and have fun while doing it!!
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
I feel like one of the most effective strategies I have had for growing my clientele has been to participate in style shoots. By providing flowers for a mock wedding, I have made connections with many vendors from all areas of the wedding industry. I have had my work published in magazines by several photographers I have worked with on these style shoots. By developing these relationships, I have been able to establish myself and my company as not only a reputable company to work with, but they get to see my designs and my work ethic. Many of these vendors have gone on to refer me to potential clients who then become actual clients. It’s amazing how fast I have been able to get my name and my business out into the wedding industry because of these referrals. I also benefit from style shoots by getting gorgeous professional pictures of my work to be shared on social media, my website and potential clients.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Honestly, I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with social media and because of that, I asked my lead floral designer to become my social media manager. Best decision ever!!! Because she knows the product, she knows what needs to be shared and how to share it on social media. As the owner of the business, I have had to get used to being in stories, reels, etc. I highly recommend that if you aren’t social media savvy like me, find someone who is and let them start building your social media presence. Make sure they understand your brand, what kind of content you want shared and where and when. You don’t have to start out big. I started out doing a couple of post a week myself and then I would get too busy. I quickly found that I needed someone else to do it but I wanted to make sure it was someone who understands my business, my products and my services. Since having my designer take on this role of social media manager, we have greatly increased our social media following and have seen an large increase in inquiries from potential clients.
