Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tish McDermott. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I come from a long line of artists/creatives. My passions lay in handmade jewelry and tie dye. I love creating jewelry using the metaphysical properties of the stones, creating a wardrobe accessory and an accent to your soul. The type of jewelry I make has a hippie vibe to it and being that I have always wore tie dye, it just seemed to be a natural progression to add tie dye to my creative process. I incorporate found object and recycled wire to my jewelry and also recycled clothing with my tie dye. It is very important to me to keep my manufacturing footprint small.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Being able to help someone else bring their vision to life. When someone wants a custom order, I feel honored that someone chose to share their vision with me, and trusted me to bring that vision to life for them. That feeling when you reveal the final product and you see the joy on their face. Unmatchable.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Once I got over the FOMO of having to have a social media presence on every platform, I started to have fun. I honestly have no idea what I am doing on social media, other than having fun sharing and teaching about my art. Social media is hard when you have to do it all by yourself. As an artist it is so difficult to flip flop from the creative process to social media and back again. I have to make all of my product that I sell, then take pictures or create videos of them, then post them onto social media, then respond to the followers who are supporting me and go back then to creating art again. So instead of setting my sights on blowing up on social media, I use it as a platform to share what I do, teach what I do and meet like minded individuals. I feel I have the exact amount of exposure I need for the level of work that I can do as one person.
