We recently connected with Tingting Shi and have shared our conversation below.
Tingting , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s jump back to the first dollar you earned as a creative? What can you share with us about how it happened?
As one of the jewelry designers for Spring Street Story, my heart swelled with pride as I made my first sale at a pop-up market. The customer was immediately drawn to a pair of delicate polymer clay earrings our team had designed, and I watched with bated breath as they tried them on. When she smiled and said she had to have them, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of accomplishment and joy as I made my first dollar. It was a defining moment that affirmed my passion for designing handmade jewelry and set me on a path towards fulfilling my dreams.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
This is Tingting Shi, I am a fashion student at Savannah College of Art and Design, and I am also one of the founders of SPRING STREET STORY, a handmade jewelry brand.
SPRING STREET STORY is a handmade polymer clay jewelry brand that captures boldness, delicacy, and uniqueness in every piece—inspired by our happy and blue life stories. Each jewelry piece is skillfully crafted by talented artisans, ensuring that every design is original and unique. With its daring and vibrant color palettes, intricate designs, and delicate details, SPRING STREET STORY is the perfect choice for anyone looking to make a bold and unique fashion statement.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
To begin with, I perceive things differently. From my perspective, good ideas are unlimited, and they can resonate and receive feedback from various individuals regardless of their creative backgrounds. By being inclusive, people from different fields can find common ground and empathy with one another. For example, my cousin is a science and engineering student studying electronic information technology, while I am an art and design major. Nevertheless, we frequently discuss and exchange experiences from our respective professions. Despite my not grasping any physical formulas and her not comprehending various dress styles and classifications, we can still relate and empathize with each other. For instance, she understands why I feel frustrated when things in design don’t make sense, and I know her struggles with unsolvable issues in circuit experiments.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My love of the creative instinct has kept me on the creator’s path. I hope that in the future, I will continue to create designs that help people solve problems, whether through jewelry or clothing. Because my university teacher once said, “Design is used to solve problems.”. This has always been my motto.
