Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tinesha Tutt. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Tinesha, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We love asking folks what they would do differently if they were starting today – how they would speed up the process, etc. We’d love to hear how you would set everything up if you were to start from step 1 today
Let me start by saying, I have no regrets about how my journey has played out over the last 4 years. However, if I had the chance to go back, I would’ve let go of responsibilities sooner and set up systems faster. Sometimes as business owners, we believe we can do it all, or we believe we need to fund it all. The problem with that is a lot of business owners tend to lose their drive and passion when they are the CEO, manager, and assistant. I kept hoping for an overflow of business and I wasn’t ready for it and it led to burnout. If I had been properly prepared and had the right systems in place, I would’ve been able to continuously grow and not stop to build out systems in between. So all in all, I wish I would’ve been following people who were paid and rested, not booked and busy. It would’ve changed the trajectory of how I operated in a mode of trauma stemming from people believing that if you are not booked and overbooked, then you are not working. Outsource and systems. That would be my change.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Tinesha Tutt and I am a creator, connector and strategist. I am a Full Time Realtor, Event Coordinator and Content Creator. In all of my professions, I have one goal and that is to connect people to the next step on their journey in life whether that is through helping people buy and sell properties, creating events for business owners, or creating compelling content to reach a broader audience. What sets me a part is my ability to adapt and problem solve quickly. My professions are forever changing and I am forever educating myself to be able to assist my customers better. I am most proud of all of the people I have been able to connect together over the years to change their lives for the better.
As a Realtor, I have diversified my services to better serve my customers. I not only help people buy and sell homes, but I also do the same for business owners looking to purchase or lease a property. When it comes to leasing, my property management skills and history allow me to properly guide my customers and negotiate. You can’t negotiate what you don’t know. I’m unique in my industry because I have spent a lot of time in the field learning from others. I’m not afraid to ask questions or raise my hand a million times. I was always told, you can judge a person not by what they say but the questions they ask.
When I’m in my event curation zone, I do my best to bring people into an environment that is safe, educational and entertaining. I believe events are more than about collecting money, it’s about creating the most unforgettable experience from the moment someone walks in the door. From the food choices, to the vendor selection, I carefully curate events to be beneficial to all parties.
Overall, my attention to detail and heart for people leads my business and I believe that is why I will always remain blessed.
Have you ever had to pivot?
Whew. 4 years ago. A little under 4 years ago everyone from the company I was working for was furloughed because of Covid. I will never forget getting sent home, health care gone, pay gone and no communication. At that point I was just another employee. I promised myself from that point forward I would never let someone control my life and my money like that. I had no idea what I thought was a moment of failure, was actually a moment that I was finally able to tap into my full potential. Had that moment never happened, I would’ve never moved so for that, I’m grateful. Real Estate means way more to me than just selling homes, it has created endless possibilities and has created so much freedom and joy for my life and so many others. My success is determined by my own confidence and fortitude. I am in control of my life and I am now in control of my future.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Be Organic. Be Yourself. When I first got into business I tried to do everything that I saw others doing online, not knowing I was setting myself up for failure. I wasn’t a salesman, I’m not a salesman. I’m a relationship person. I thrive off of organic relationships. I do not have a huge amount of followers, but I have a large influx of business because of referrals. When I realized that the posts I was putting out were so generic and not me, I decided to pivot. It was then that I knew people were not buying real estate with me because they wanted to buy real estate, they were buying into me. I am the product. You are the product. In business, you will have many instances where you will want to pivot, so imagine if you pivot and you’ve lost your entire audience because they weren’t buying into you, they were buying your product.
Focus on organic reach by telling stories through video, photo and writing. Take photos and videos often, it might be uncomfortable for a while but this is the key to never running out of content. Don’t be afraid to invest in professional content!
