We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tinesha Croom. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tinesha below.
Tinesha, appreciate you joining us today. Parents can play a significant role in affecting how our lives and careers turn out – and so we think it’s important to look back and have conversations about what our parents did that affected us positive (or negatively) so that we can learn from the billions of experiences in each generation. What’s something you feel your parents did right that impacted you positively.
My parents provided me with the opportunities and the grit to go after my dreams but not without hard work. As a child, I always envisioned having a career and retiring. My parents gave me, and continue as an adult, a reality check that life comes with many challenges. It is what you do to overcome those challenges that make you great! Having these morals have provided me with the foundation needed to reach all of my goals successfully. Tough love has molded me into the person I am today. I’m very grateful that my parents were a dominant part of my life and gave me the drive and ambition to strive for better every day. I can honestly say that they did an excellent job giving me the tools I need to continue on my journey as a Psychology Professor and a Business Owner.
Tinesha, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
As a growing professional, you find that flexibility is vital for continued movement and growth. As I reflect on my career, I realize that there are so many moving parts and things can get overwhelming sometimes, but; in those moments, I found that I birthed my most significant accomplishments.
When I started my career, I knew one day I wanted to have my own business but found that in earlier stages, starting a business would have tipped the scales and required more from me than what I thought at the time I was willing to give. As time passed, I realized that it is possible to accomplish your goals and maintain a family life. Even today, there is still some struggle to pivot between my home, work, and business life.
The one thing that keeps me going most days is the smile on my children’s faces when they see their mom reaching goals. My oldest son once said, “Mom, you are like a Superhero-you can do anything.” Hearing those little words keeps me going! Somehow I have managed to create a balance to pivot from work to personal time.
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
Funding a business, I found, was only half of the battle with starting a new business. After exploring many resources, I determined that it was much easier for me to self-fund my business, hoping to see a return in the future rather than take on more debt. I am thankful every day that I chose this method because; it allows me more financial freedom in the future. I don’t doubt that I will eventually need to seek out additional resources, but I can now manage operating costs.
