We caught up with the brilliant and insightful TINA SCOTT a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
TINA, appreciate you joining us today. When you’ve been a professional in an industry for long enough, you’ll experience moments when the entire field takes a U-Turn, an instance where the consensus completely flips upside down or where the “best practices” completely change. If you’ve experienced such a U-Turn over the course of your professional career, we’d love to hear about it.
Certainly! Being unfairly fired from my previous job felt like a devastating blow, knocking me down and leaving me questioning my worth and abilities. But rather than letting it defeat me, I chose to rise above the adversity and turn it into an opportunity for growth.
In the depths of my despair, I turned to my faith for guidance and strength. Through prayer and reflection, I found the courage to pursue a new path by starting my own private practice. It wasn’t easy; there were moments of doubt and fear, but I refused to let them hold me back. Instead, I used them as fuel to propel me forward.
As I poured my heart and soul into building my practice, something remarkable happened. I discovered a resilience within myself that I never knew existed. With each obstacle I encountered, I found a way to overcome it, learning and growing along the way.
Through dedication and perseverance, my practice began to flourish. I found joy and fulfillment in helping others, using my own experiences to empathize with their struggles and guide them toward healing. What was meant to destroy me became the catalyst for my transformation.
Today, I look back on those challenging times with gratitude. They taught me resilience, determination, and the power of faith. I emerged from the darkness stronger, more confident, and more resilient than ever before. What was meant to kill my spirit only fueled my determination to soar to new heights, proving that with faith and perseverance, we can overcome any obstacle that comes our way.

TINA, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My journey into the wellness industry was sparked by personal challenges and a realization that many voices remain unheard, silenced by adversity. I wanted to change that narrative, to empower individuals to thrive despite setbacks. I firmly believe that life isn’t over just because someone doesn’t fit in or isn’t part of the “in” crowd.
Driven by this passion, I immersed myself in executive coaching, organizational development, and mental health advocacy. Through these endeavors, I aimed to create inclusive spaces where everyone’s voice could be valued and where support was accessible to all.
From this journey emerged the concept of therapy parties and the creation of Wick Appeal therapeutic candles. These offerings aren’t mere products and services; they are tools for personal growth, connections, and moments of solace.
What sets my brand apart is its holistic approach to wellness. It’s not just about addressing symptoms; it’s about addressing the underlying causes of issues like loneliness and exclusion. Through my work, I strive to empower individuals to embrace their uniqueness, find strength in adversity, and live authentically, unapologetically.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Absolutely. A defining moment that underscores my resilience occurred when I faced unexpected termination from a job. What made it more challenging was the discovery that someone close to me had applied for my position before I even knew about it. The betrayal cut deep, shaking my trust and leaving me feeling vulnerable.
In the aftermath, I grappled with a whirlwind of emotions—anger, hurt, and disbelief. Yet, rather than succumbing to bitterness, I made a conscious choice to turn adversity into an opportunity for growth.
Through introspection and soul-searching, I gleaned profound lessons about trust and setting boundaries. I learned to tread carefully without losing my inherent trust in others, and to give generously while safeguarding my own well-being.
This experience was a pivotal moment in my journey, highlighting the importance of resilience in the face of betrayal and adversity. It taught me that resilience isn’t just about bouncing back; it’s about finding strength in vulnerability and wisdom in pain.
Ultimately, this experience deepened my resolve to navigate life’s challenges with grace and resilience, reinforcing my belief in the power of resilience to transform adversity into opportunity.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
A lesson I had to unlearn was the belief that I needed to constantly put others’ needs before my own in order to be considered caring and compassionate. The backstory behind this lesson traces back to my upbringing, where I was taught that self-sacrifice was noble and expected, especially for those in caregiving roles.
For years, I adhered to this belief, prioritizing the needs of others above my own well-being. However, over time, I began to realize the detrimental impact this mindset was having on my mental and emotional health. I was neglecting my own needs, leading to burnout and resentment.
Through self-reflection and introspection, I came to understand that true compassion and care start from within. I had to unlearn the notion that my worth was contingent upon my ability to constantly give and sacrifice for others.
Instead, I embraced the importance of self-care and setting boundaries. I learned that taking care of myself wasn’t selfish; it was necessary for me to show up fully and authentically in my relationships and work.
