Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tina Richardson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Tina, appreciate you joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
Prior to the pandemic, I performed professionally as a Singer in a band with and for my Ex-Husband. After going through the pandemic, and all that it brought with it in my life and the world, I found my calling in Entertainment. I learned to DJ and began marketing myself as a DJ | SINGER | EMCEE. This allowed me to use all the gifts and talents God gave me to spread love and peace through musical entertainment with or without a band.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Queen T – DJ | SINGER | EMCEE
I’ve been singing and dancing for as long as I can remember, but I didn’t pursue a career in the entertainment industry until after the World Wide Pandemic. Prior to the pandemic, I’d quit my full-time job as a staff accountant to help my then husband handle the administrative tasks for his growing entertainment company. Within months of coming off my job as an accountant, I was on stage singing and dancing with a 5pc Live Band in the Infamous Ybor City located in the heart of Tampa, Fl. That was in 2015. Fast forward to 2017 after LOTS performances as a duo, and we got booked to perform on a Carnival Cruise out of Sydney, Australia. We had 3 days to prepare to leave the country and perform for 3 weeks on a cruise ship, the “Carnival Spirit.” We continued performing through the pandemic until I suffered an emotional, mental, and nervous breakdown, which landed me in a mental hospital for 3 days. Through the recovery of this episode in my life, God truly spoke to me about using my gifts, talents, and skills to spread peace and love through musical entertainment throughout the world. I’d worked so hard for so many companies, 2 marriages that ended, raising my children, and it was now time to put that energy into developing Queen T. My entire mission is to spread peace & love through musical entertainment. Whether I’m Sanging, DJ’ing, or performing with a Live Band, the event attendees should leave feeling better than when they arrived. My business also affords opportunities for other professional entertainers to share their gifts and talents with the world.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I am driven to spread peace and love through musical entertainment after experiencing the pandemic as a full-time local entertainer. During the pandemic, my empathy for people increased dramatically. People missed out on celebrating milestones in their lives and lives of their loved ones because we weren’t allowed to be in contact with each other as a human race. Never had I ever realized the importance of making memories that last for generations when providing entertainment for birthday parties, weddings, family reunions, company holiday parties, etc. Now, living in this whole new world post pandemic which we’re creating as a human race, it brings me so much joy to celebrate special occasions with families from all over the world by providing quality entertainment at their events.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
As a Degreed Accountant operating as an Entertainer, I often get non-creatives who offer their opinion that I should focus on my accounting career. Accounting functioned as a means for me to provide for my children and pay bills, but it’s not what I was created to do. I have always had great work ethic, so succeeding in a job was always easy for me. Building an entertainment based off my natural talents and gifts has been nothing short of challenging in every way; however, the joy I get when I turn on the music and get first head nod that someone is feeling the song I selected at an event I was chosen to provide entertainment makes the journey worth it.
