We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tina Psoinos. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tina below.
Hi Tina, thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
Over the years, and in partnership with Paris K Design & Architecture, I have participated in numerous charitable events including DIFFA, Lenox Hill Neighborhood House, Design on a Dime, and Holiday House, to name a few. Each of the fundraisers call for designers to create vignettes complete with artworks and accessories, or tabletop designs. Centered around a theme, we create mood boards and together with our generous partnering manufacturers we put together a compelling visual installation for visitors to enjoy and/ or acquire. One of the benefiting organizations once invited us to tour their facility and let us hear directly from those who benefit from their services and the funds we raise through the events. It was an emotional experience; one that justified the time and effort that all participants contribute toward such note-worthy causes. It is tremendous to see how each one of us has the ability to lend a helping hand and change someone’s life, using our unique talents and tools.

Tina, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a multi-disciplinary artist exploring the feminine in all its manifestations. Working primarily in abstract painting and pop art mixed media, I create visual platforms as conversation starters, seeking to evoke mainly visceral responses through the introduction of color and texture, while solving the spatial requirements of the collector’s residence or business. I have a background in Fine Art as well as Interior Design; the combination of which always comes as a bonus to whatever project I work on. I was introduced to art from a very young age. My paternal grandmother was a painter while my maternal grandmother was passionate about creating intricate needlework. But it wasn’t through them that I chose this path. In college I fell in love with Photography. It was a prerequisite for another class and for me it was Love at First Sight. It shaped the path that has taken me here today. I have been chasing shadows ever since, reliving the high of seeing my first image develop in the darkroom or while shaping wet clay between my fingers, and seeing layers of paint unfold on canvas.
Motherhood inspired a transformation in me as a person and as a creative. Made me more prolific, more curious, it made me whole. As a mother I shot my best photography. My work transformed into ethereal fine art Photography that eventually turned into Mixed Media and into Painting. Photography was an awakening of the senses and a newfound way of seeing. The birth of my daughter switched on a profound need to explore the feminine, promoting female empowerment and emotional expression, one artwork at a time. In art school, work and life women are often told that they have to choose between family and career. I am here to tell people that motherhood is not our handicap but our strength. I am a better artist because I am a mother. I feel confident and complete and my work reflects that. My abstractions are emotional memories and my Pop Art portraiture pays tribute to the goddesses of our time.
Born in Athens, Greece, I live and work in NYC completing projects and shipping around the world.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The connections that I have made with all of those that have responded to my work. Sometimes I am being informed of the impact an artwork had in a collector’s space/ life and that’s tremendous. It confirms that art is powerful and that what we do is important in improving people’s lives. I am thankful for my own tribe of fellow artists, curators, gallerists, designers, collectors, friends, fans and the rest of devoted and enthusiastic people that have been following my journey and cheering me along.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
Art is a window to an artist’s soul. We show glimpses of our world; reveal secrets and show our true colors, allowing ourselves to be vulnerable. In return we seek a response, a reaction from the viewer. If you find the work relatable we’d like to know. We are here to contribute to a better world and bring joy into people’s homes/ lives. Don’t hesitate to ask us how we can help.
