We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tina Charisma a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Tina, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
My mission is to amplify stories from marginalized communities, a deeply meaningful endeavor that empowers underrepresented voices, fostering understanding, and driving social change in the process. By giving these communities a platform to share their unique experiences and challenges, I contribute to several platforms as well as consult and lecture. I believe the process towards creating a more inclusive society starts with inspiring more diverse voices, I inspire empathy, and advocate for justice. Through representation and education, I challenge stereotypes and promote diversity, ultimately working toward a more equitable and compassionate world.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I embarked on my career in politics and international development, with a deep commitment to serving my community and the broader world. Over time, this commitment evolved into a fervor for media and broadcasting, providing a platform to address issues aimed at improving the world. Through my endeavors in media and communications, I have the privilege of sharing narratives and advocating for positive change, enabling me to effect change along the way.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
In the early stages of my entrepreneurial journey as a writer, I faced significant challenges. Building a writing business from scratch is not for the faint-hearted. But I was determined to make this venture work. You will face several rejections and non-responses were frequent, which could be disheartening. However, I refused to be discouraged. I continued honing my craft, I also diversified my offerings, branching into different types of writing to broaden my potential client base. Over the years I have had the opportunity to work with some leading brands. My writing consultancy has continued to thrive. I was able to create meaningful work not only for myself but also for the clients I served. This experience taught me that resilience, in the face of the challenges that come with entrepreneurship, is a powerful tool. It’s about showing up, adapting, and persisting even when the road ahead seems tough. Overcoming those initial hurdles made me appreciate the value of resilience in the pursuit of meaningful work and achieving my goals as a founder and writer.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I have had to unlearn that no does not mean never. As an entrepreneur we come across hurdles that give us an opportunity to grow and excel.
