We recently connected with Tina Butt and have shared our conversation below.
Tina , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
I have worked in the medical field for over 20 years and can say that I loved what I did as a Nurse Practitioner. That was up until 2020 when the Pandemic hit. This is when I saw a drastic change in the medical profession. I started to see unhappy faces in the hallways of the hospitals; long waits to see a medical provider; concerned staff voicing their unhappy thoughts in front of and to anyone who would listen. Not only was I a medical provider, but I was also a patient. A patient that had a medical problem requiring multiple visits to healthcare specialists in very large hospitals. These same hospitals that I have worked in over the years became cold and angry. After seeing many of my own patients, family members and myself be treated in a negative way, I decided to go out on my own and open my own Wellness Practice offering an alternative to traditional medicine. So many people were suffering from different health concerns related to the pandemic but also illnesses that were present prior to the pandemic who were now unable to get the help they searched for. I opened my business while continuing to work full time in a healthcare institution. I went out on a limb offering an alternative means to feeling well and reaching health goals, while someone is waiting for possibly months to see specialists for the same concerns. I was able to provide many people a way to feel better; less pain, decreased stress, healthy eating options, weight management methods, supplementation to prescription medications all while providing a happy, caring and healthy environment. This was a risk for me as I worked for years in traditional medicine and I know there are a large number of people including medical providers who do not associate alternative means to health acceptable.

Tina , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I have been in the medical field as a Registered Nurse for over 20 years; Nurse Practitioner for >15 years. During this time I have dealt with some amazing patients and colleagues. I have also seen quite a few changes take place that may leave the patient searching for their own treatment(s) for what ails them. I started my nursing career after I met my now husband who introduced me to the “heart of a Nurse”. I have always been a great listener with my patients and treat each person like a puzzle. Each of us are very different which means we need an approach to our health that is individulaized not cookie cutter. Too many healthcare professionals follow algorhytms while dealing with their patients health concerns. This leads to pills and many diagnostic tests, ultimately costing the patient and healthcare field a lot of money.
In 2019, I started my own Healthcare Advocacy and Health Coaching business to help guide people to finding alternative ways to feeling better. I grew this business and started an IV Hydration practice in January of 2023. These 2 businesses have since been combined under Boost Mode Vitadrip Spa; offering IV Hydration, vitamin injections and weight management solutions. My team and I help people develop new healthy habits to shift their mindset; therefore reaching their healthiest level. I have started and continue to build this business while working full time in a medical practice and while serving my role(s) of mother, wife and daughter.
I am very proud of the love my community has shown me and my business as this is a practice most people have not heard of until I brought it to our small community. They have accepted me with open arms and show the love of my services through repeat visits and referrals. My team and I strive to continue to provide the best care for our community and beyond by listening to what each person’s needs and wants are. We will not provide a quick fix, nor will we be involved in the latest treand(s); but we will provide individualized care while pushing the envelope a little as we provide non traditional options for the well-being of others.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
The one lesson in life that took me a long time to learn and even admit was a problem in my life was the effects of stress on the mind and body. The old saying is “stress will kill you”. Well I was seeing it in most of my patients each time they appeared with health conditions such as cancer, chronic pain, high blood pressure, chronic headaches, relationship issues etc. but I was not accepting it as the cause of my own illnesses. I was a person who sought the hard things in life; stressful jobs and many degrees and certificates. I was always on the go and never learned how to rest. Over time this caused “burnout”. I started to suffer from health conditions that were autoimmune. The medical profession never worked with me to find the underlying cause of my autoimmune disease(s) they just provided medicine. Well, over time, I started to develop several autoimmune diseases all related to stress. Once I learned to slow down, listen to my own body and remove myself from situations that were harming me instead of helping me, I finally started to feel better. No, I did not get rid of my underlying illnesses but I have controlled them by managing how I look at life and stressful events. I now guide my patients to learn this way of thinking through my 5 Steps to Reaching Wellness which is what I use for my Health Counseling clients.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I was a teenager. A high school counselor told me that I did not have what it took to go to college. That comment not only pushed me to prove that person wrong, but it pushed me to keep going. After my first year of college, I changed my major to Nursing, received my Associate Degree while working Full time as a nursing assistant/pharmacy technician; graduated with honors, worked for 2 years then went back to earn my Bachelors of Science in Nursing, while working Full time. I graduated on a Saturday and started Graduate School 2 days later. I received my Masters of Science in Nursing then went on to take my National Certification to become a Certified Family Nurse Practitioner. I was not going to let somone else dictate my life story, that was up to me.
