Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tina Adams-Mason, CEO and Lead Makeup Artist for About Face Pros Luxury Mobile Beauty Services. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation; we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Tina thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
I’ve been a makeup artist for over 34 years. I got my start in retail in Lubbock, TX when I was 19 years old. I’d always loved makeup and fashion from an early age. I did my friends makeup for school dances and going out on the weekends. I collected every fashion magazine I could get my hands on to know what were the latest trends. I just didn’t realize that it was something that I could do for a living until one fateful day an account executive from a brand called Prescriptives approached me while I was walking through a mall and asked me to come to work for them. That’s how I got my start in the beauty industry. I moved to Dallas at the age of 23 and started working for Neiman Marcus and several beauty brands including Bobbi Brown, Le Metier de Beaute, Marc Jacobs Beauty.
I started my own side hustle 25 years ago and just did my own thing including makeup for weddings, special events for clients, and a few TV shows but it was just me. The idea for this iteration of my business came from my husband over a decade ago. He told me years ago that I had everything to grow a viable business except a team. He was like you’ll never grow your business with it just being you. After more than a decade, I finally took his advice and added a team of like-minded makeup artists and also included hairstylists to be able to offer clients a one-stop shop experience in January 2020 and then COVID happened. It was really the best thing that could have happened for my business. It forced me to readjust and think quickly on my feet. I started offering clients virtual consultations and virtual Master Makeup Classes for larger groups. Then once ‘stay in place’ allowed smaller groups of people to gather in-person in May 2020, I started offering hair/makeup for smaller weddings at the client’s location of choice. That was my game changer.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

The trust and relationships that we’ve built with our clients is what sets About Face Pros apart. Our clients know that we’re reliable, fast, discreet, and talented.
I’m most proud of being a mentor to my young, incredibly talented team of women.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson that I had to unlearn was that I had to be anyone other than myself. Once I stopped trying emulate others and started being confident in my ability and what I brought to the table, my whole trajectory changed. The thing that opened doors for me was being authentically myself. I found that clients appreciate you being real.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Professionalism, reliability, and great relationships is what built my reputation in my industry. Perseverance, a willingness to adapt to change, a strong work ethic, and continued education in my field continue to grow my business.
