Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Timothy Richards. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Timothy , thanks for joining us today. Any thoughts about whether to ask friends and family to support your business. What’s okay in your view?
I typically never ask my friends or family to support my business. The reason is because I don’t want it to be a forced relationship. I want it to be authentic because they genuinely believe in what I’m doing. I know a lot of my peers may disagree with that statement because the people closest to you should, but with the way I think it’s gonna be the random strangers who you don’t know who’s gonna be the reason why your business grows

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My business Designs by Rich Studios LLC is streetwear brand located in Atlanta, GA focused on innovation and creativity of streetwear.
I think what sets me apart from other brands is that a good majority of my designs are taken from anime shows that I watched as a kid and how I coordinate it with my clothes in a rock star type of a way.
What I’m most proud of is my drive to keep creating even when I might have the best month in sales; I just love being able to say that I created a certain thing with my hands alone. What I’m most excited about is the future of the brand of where things would leave to.
I faced many challenges with my brand. For one I didn’t start Rich Studios until early 2019 , before I was “KOTD” in high school (2016-early 2018) and “Never Avg”(late 2018-early-2019). I had no clue what the hell I was doing at first especially the direction I was going with. At first I struggled with the products I created because I knew they weren’t me until I hooked up with some close friends and they told me that I needed to express my true creativity they knew I had. The one thing I struggle with is that my brand didn’t start pulling in any money until 2020(pandemic), but the most important lesson I learned is to be patient and stay the course which I did. I ended up pulling in a couple thousands a month even having times where I would make 12k in a day.
What I want the world to know about my brand is that this is the brand where you can be yourself and also step outside of your comfort zone and trying on different styles of clothing. Test your limits and see where your creativity leads you to.

Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
I officially funded my brand by working part time at Lafitness and Sweet Psalm’s flourist while I was in college and devoted every check I got to making more clothes.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I originally built my audience from the days where I was restoring and customizing sneakers and then I created a TikTok account around 2021 and I posted a video of my sister alongside one of the longest jeans I make and outta nowhere the video blew up with 1M views
