We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Timothy Reynolds Jr a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Timothy, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
My whole life from what I can remember. In 6th grade I had to create a comic book for my younger sister as a class project and in my bio I stated I wanted to be a graphic designer. It was always something I wanted to do. Plus, growing up around artists was mad motivating. Pops and my uncles were musicians and my god father was a great artist! He attended the Cleveland Institute of Art. So being around that day in and day out I knew I wanted to create art in some form, fashion just happened to be the one that stuck.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am the co-owner /head designer for PRAY4THEPREY/P4TP. Fashion, primarily streetwear has been a passion of mine since I was a kid really. My father and mother were always into style so it was always a big part of how I expressed myself. Getting into the business of fashion however hasn’t been easy but I don’t feel it should be. We broke onto the scene heavily in Cleveland I want to say in 2018. Junior (my partner) was already into styling and I was just heavy into designing streetwear and studying that. We came in with tees, hoodies, the usual pieces however we knew we wanted to do more, craved cut & sew items, patterns and just good quality pieces that spoke for themselves. The brand has grown immensely over these past few years. From the items we drop, to the places we ship orders. The moment we got a few orders in Europe I knew it was up from there! We just want people to enjoy wearing our clothes, ya know? I give people my own personal pieces because I’d much rather see them in it. It gives me a sense of joy, gives me a rush I’ve never felt when people genuinely enjoy what I create.
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
Man, definitely! I wish I knew about manufacturers when I was 19. I was always so engulfed in fear and too anxious to really reach out for that info mainly because when I did these brand owners would shoot me down. This second one isn’t a resource just something I lacked heavily, which is confidence. It’s really one of the most important traits to have. People want to see you and just know you believe your product is the best thing ever made
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Genuinely be present in their journey. Also, money is not the only way to support your favorite artists. Share posts, spread the word, come to their events (something I had to get better at). We’re putting our all into this, so even the smallest sign of genuine love and support is amazing.
